NETFILE was actually closed until February 23. So, one could not NETFILE the 2025 returns before that date.

Thanks for the clarification.

I suppose someone could still have sent in a paper return prior to February 23, 2026 and I assume that would have been acceptable.

I use software to do all the calculations but I still file a paper return. BTW: Does the CRA still send paper returns to people who filed paper in the past?

According to Important changes to the 2025 income tax package, CRA no longer mails the package automatically:

What’s changing with the 2025 income tax package?

This year, the CRA will no longer proactively mail the income tax package to individuals. This means that paper filers will not automatically receive a 2025 income tax package in the mail. This decision has been made to support the CRA’s continued shift to digital services. Electronic returns are generally processed much quicker than paper. Online self-serve options are also available for individuals to easily obtain what they need, if they choose to file on paper.

In addition, the CRA has removed federal schedules with low usage-rates from the 2025 income tax package and their corresponding provincial and territorial schedules, where applicable. Careful analysis was completed in order to remove schedules that would minimize impact on individuals that still choose to file on paper.

I called the number they give for income tax packages to be mailed. I received two income tax packages about 7 days after the automated telephone request.
I like doing it on paper. Sometimes, just to clarify things so I don't get asked.

I've noticed Motus bank uploaded empty TFSA form to CRA My Account. It should be empty as I have not had TFSA with Motus, but I don't understand why would they generate an empty form for that.

You have no Motus TFSA Account or you have a TFSA Account but with no contributions to it?

I have empty TFSA Accounts at a few FI's. Some of them issue empty CRA entries annually ...

I used to have Motus TFSA Account, which I closed in 2022. Four years ago.

Never mind, it appears they were uploading empty TFSA form every year since then. Just checked. Never paid attention to that before.

Hopefully, there won't be any forms from Motus in CRA My Account next year.

Thanks for the update.

I thought that folks who filed a paper return last year will automatically get a paper return this year.

I like paper because I like to "touch and feel". Also, I could have already done the paper return by the time it takes me to learn the electronic return.

Might as well get used to Electronic Filing. The CRA is sure to pull-the-plug on Prehistoric Paper Filing, at some point in the not-to-distant Future.

Have you actually looked at something like Studio Tax? Best I can tell, it is no different than entering data by pencil on a paper return and it does all the calculations as a bonus! No calculators, no errors and the return is processed far quicker than a paper filing.

It is really just a matter of moving with the times, just as there was an adjustment using a bank ATM rather than CSR counter services.

Maybe CRA will put out a free electronic filing system. Think they are going to do something for seniors. But probably for just the basic income of CPP, OAS etc. Does Studio Tax have a download for "Statement of Rentals"? Anyone know?

Okay, just answered my own question. It would appear after googling the info,
that Studio Tax does have a place for the Statement of Rentals to be downloaded on to the return. So, that's good. Maybe I'll try it next year.

Not a big deal but is StudioTax charging a fee this year. It was free for many years until I think 2 years ago. Again, not a big deal just curious.

Studiotax for Windows and for Mac are not free for tax year 2025: $17.50 to print or file up to ten returns.

The mobile versions of Studiotax are free.

Oaken Financial (Home Trust/Home Bank) is apparently not mailing out T5 slips this year. Clients must print T5s from their online account. No option to receive hard copies. I feel that clients should have the option to choose. Presumably, they will do a favour at end of March and mail out T5s upon special request to those who are unable, for some reason, to access T5s online. This is the only financial institution that I am aware of that will not mail these tax slips.

If you manage your affairs with Oaken online (the very definition of who Oaken Financial is for almost everyone), why would one NOT also have the ability to download a PDF on to their device.... whatever it is? Perfectly logical for a digital bank, no?

Why does one need to print out a paper copy of a tax slip? I do what I can to avoid paper tax slips. Any that must still come by paper are scanned into PDFs and the paper copies shredded.

Isn't there a legal obligation for a financial institution to provide a paper T5? Next thing you know, a financial institution will send their T5's by smoke signal.

COIN and GR: That's what I thought. And I was right! I told them this months ago, and in February my slips arrived in the post.

I don't do anything with them on line, but they seem happy to see my funds. I still have to do some things with an office visit, but the T-slips just came as expected.
