Fair enough, but this is turning into a bigger deal to me than you might think.
While my TU file may indeed show my real name elsewhere in an AKA field (which perhaps explains how the error didn't obstruct my obtaining conventional credit), I'm definitely feeling some impact now, because I am unable to gain online access to my TransUnion file since the personal information I enter to register for the service did/does not agree with their incorrect data. That in turn is now preventing me from accessing the real-time credit protection service that CapitalOne is supposed to be providing me through TU as a victim of their data breach. And now that TU has suspended my file, I've also been advised not to apply for credit anywhere until the issue is resolved.
They know who I am, they've verified every last piece of information in my file with me by phone, they're aware of the online access problem and what's causing it, but they won't do anything to fix it until they receive acceptable new written documentation from me showing my correct name. Since they won't commit to anything less than 30 days for taking action, I have no choice but to twist in the wind until such time as either they process the correction or reject my submitted proof and force me to start all over again.
As you may have guessed, I'm not very happy about it.
I think the key thing to take away from this is that it is important to validate your credit report before any issues happen, because any issues in the file may make resolving the other issues even harder. I have checked my Trans Union and Equifax report a few times in the past. Every single time there were errors that I have corrected. As I think back now, those errors were likely immaterial.
It has been about 10 years since I have checked either. I'm taking this as a reminder that I should do it now. I'll print off the forms from both bureaus today and send them out ASAP.
That said, I do check most of the details on a regular basis through CreditKarma (for TU) and Borrowell (for EQF). So, I'm not too worried about any derogatory info on there impacting my credit because I do check that.
It sounds like you are on your way to have it sorted out in the next month. Hopefully, that goes smoothly and you have no further problems as a result.

"Equifax was the subject of more than 57,000 consumer complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from October 2012 to September 17, 2017, with most complaints relating to incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or misattributed information held by the company." Wiki
"In September 2017, Equifax announced a cyber-security breach, which it claims to have occurred between mid-May and July 2017,[9] where cybercriminals accessed approximately 145.5 million U.S. Equifax consumers' personal data, including their full names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and driver license numbers." LOL, dealjunkie. As if you suggest others are lying (for no reason) .
I have also tender in my application and it work just fine. It immediate prompt me to set up linkage with my other account.
I try to set up my account yesterday night, but it looks like they are updating their website when I am half way done, which forced me offline without completing application. They possibly solved the problem with Equifax yesterday night when they update the system.

Good luck Londonguy with B2B.
I decided to stay with Manulife @ 3.10% until Jan 21 2020.CB
The original 3.35/3.10% Manulife deal had a May15 deadline for signing up & is good for 6 mo. How did you conclude or manage that you have it or got it 'til Jan21. According to my calculations, the max good til date would be Nov13. Wassup??

Londonguy made a lengthy post regarding issues he had with TransUnion & Bill uncovered some faulty info @ Equifax, while jtfrogger was of the opinion that these credit reporting agencies are "working as intended".
I totally disagree with jtfrogger. I think they're a joke. I found a whole slew of bogus entries @ TU, including me having worked in Hamilton, AB - that's not a typo - Alberta. I've never been to Hamilton, ON & I'm not sure Hamilton, AB even exists.
They seem to be in the business of indiscriminately collecting & posting info on everyone without properly vetting anything & we're left with having to chase them down to put out their fires. Worse still, banks such as B2B & others rely solely on their data to determine whether or not you're bona fide. If that's "working as intended", they should be abolished!

Totally agree- one time I shared a Costco membership with my parents, and one of the credit agencies changed my home address to my parents without checking with me, which prevented me temporarily from getting a new bank account. I'm sure lots of other people have examples where credit agencies indiscriminately make ridiculous updates to your file.

b2b online application process still not working according to source."Error message
We are unable to process your request. Please contact us at 1.866.334.4434 for assistance."
Your source is correct.
After 3 weeks and many (25?) attempts, I think I give up. I did call the number several times and they said "So sorry, so sorry Mr. xxx - we are working on trying to resolve the issues".
The 2.5% at Scotia for 3 months will work just fine for me - secure bank, EASY application and decent rate for 3 months.

Bud, have you tried calling? I had an issue, i.e. I opened my account using an incorrect email address, my fault, I realized it a few days later and the guy tried but nothing worked. I called back a few days ago and got a techie (who apologized as he'd been on vacation and apparently the place went to heck while he was gone) and he led me through step-by-step to get it fixed up pronto. Everything up and running smoothly.
Might be your browser too, at one point they did say they were set up for Chrome as a best choice.

I used each of: Chrome, Explorer, Firefox, Edge.
It made no difference.
The agents and the technical people I spoke to during the numerous calls, all reluctantly admitted they were having problems - "system works sometimes and not at other times". So who needs that. I am happy to use other institutions who have user friendly dependable online systems - interest rate isn't the only criterion to me. B2B does not make the grade - at least so far. (If the Application System is flawed, then what else?)

Based on some insightful commentary I've received from people who work in the biz, this is most likely a case of somebody transposing my surname with that of my wife many, many years ago. So I exist all right, but TransUnion effectively invented an alias for me that incorporates her last name instead of my own. Apparently I've been getting along all these years by virtue of everything else I've entered on credit applications matching 100%, e.g. DOB, SIN, etc.
That is not necessarily a mistake.
In many provinces, like Ontario and Manitoba, marriage does allow one to assume spouse's last name. One just needs to present ID with one's original name along with the provincial marriage certificate showing matching original name and the spouse's name.
Historically, it was the wife who did this. However, the option is also available to the husband.
Yes, if one provides date of birth and SIN, lenders are able to retrieve the correct credit bureau record in spite of mismatched, misspelled, or partial names. Unfortunately, the resulting record won't meet FINTRAC name verification requirements and the financial institution will have to use another method to verify name.

Perhaps a new trick in the game offer an usually high rate keep it posted as it creates excitement for months let a few fish take advantage keep the rest in line. Perhaps thru equifax they can track hot money or larger investors who theyd rather not pay out to
Equifax can't be used for data mining like that, thankfully. When they pull your credit report, they need some sort of written or electronic authorization, unless you have an existing relationship with them, they can pull your bureau on a regular basis as a "soft" non-credit-related "account review" enquiry. So, they can't simply pull, en masse, the credit reports of non-clients with no prior consent.
That said, there's other ways, such as monitoring social media and Internet message boards, the public's reaction to certain promotions.
Cheers,
Doug
