1. Called at the end of July and asked for promotion rate 1.80% for 150 days. The customer service told me that I was not qualified. But, she mentioned if I have min. of $50,000 in account that will trigger the promotion if I call again.
2. Call again in August 4th and just to make sure if I transfer in $50,000 will get the promotion rate. The customer service told me the promotion still on but I was not qualified. And, she wouldn't confirm what will trigger for me to get the promotion rate. She said it is confidential!
3. Called yesterday after $50,000 was transferred to my account. Get the 1.80% for 150 days.

Are you sure you are getting the promotional rate on the full balance? Might they interpret the $50K you put in as 'old money' before you got the new rate?

Sounds pretty par for the course. Talk to different CSR's....get different answers. Given up calling and begging for a rate. Talk with my funds...they will be out of Tang the day after the current promo ends (Aug 31) and the bonus interest is deposited (Sep 1). If 1.8 is the best they will do...it won't be coming back.

Just asked for an offer and got the 1.8% on all the money but on saving account only for 150 days. I had a balance of 0 when I asked. Got it through the chat. Took 5 minutes.
Slybanking, how do you manage to access a human via their chat? When I click on the chat symbol all I get is highly irritating and useless AI "Chatbot". On their contact page it does say "you can log in to chat with us and get answers to more specific questions about your Account(s)." but darned if when logged in I ever get a human agent through their chat function, even if I specify I want to chat with a human.

Hi, after you log in you click on Contact us in the bottom and then scroll completely down. That's where you see the: By online chat session. Then you click on: chat with us. .

Nope, no offer for me, even through the chat. The chat agent noted that I had already been turned down by an agent on the phone, and said that was final. So, it does not matter if one has been a ING/Tangerine client for a few decades, and has had up to $100K in deposits - their algorithm for choosing offers appears run by chaos theory. My money goes elsewhere until Tang has a better offer.
Not the best way a business can maintain a happy client base.

Its people like us who are not the majority. It seems most people love the "thrill of the chase" with mindset nothing worthwhile comes easy. It's like shopping at Costco and their weekly "Treasure Hunt" offers which aren't shown in their weekly flyer. Costco has said many times people love to browse in the store and look for "hidden deals". This hasn't changed during the pandemic either.

That only shows up during times when they are ready to talk to you. Other times, it's just not there and you'd think there's no Chat with a person option.

I hate it when they lie. They twist things around and say we're only offering this to you after you finally reach someone in their "loyalty" section.

Us Winnipeggers don't need to "Treasure Hunt". We simply pull up the local lady's blog each Monday at 10:30am and all the "hidden deals" are there. Combine those with the weekly flyer, make our list & off to Costco we go. No one does bargain hunting like Winnipeggers.
To stay on topic, I'll add that Tangerine is by no means the worst corporation for lying/misleading by phone reps. If I boycotted every company that mislead me, I'd be out of places to do business. No cell phone, no internet, no bank. Wow, that sounds more appealing as I type it.

I still have my great-grandfather's sturdy but somewhat battered metal cash box. He was an Ontario farmer and local politician, and I'm not sure if he ever dealt with a bank. The land records show mortgages held by various individuals, not banks. He lived 1850-1915.
I keep the box as a remembrance of an earlier time when things were done differently, income tax didn't exist, and nobody needed to know your business.
Eventually I'll give it to a museum, along with some of his meticulous financial records. Every penny was accounted for, literally. I think I must take after him!
Anyhow, why not give us the blog lady's URL? It's possible there will be similar deals elsewhere, although i know merchandise can differ significantly from store to store, even in the same city.

I didn't post link because I didn't know or want to figure out this forums rules. I have read posts where people were slagged/accused of promoting something. But if Loonie wants it, I feel more obligated. You seem like perhaps the Godfather of the forum and I don't want to get whacked.
savemoneyinwinnipeg.com
The posts that I was referring to are the "Costco unadvertised deals of the week starting...".

I just logged in to my Tangerine savings account and saw a targeted offer of 2.8% for new deposits that expires Aug 31. I wish I had seen this sooner, the offer indicates that this started April 3. I will transfer from EQ to Tangerine and see what happens come Sept. 1
I logged in to my wife's Tangerine account and there is no special offer.
