OfflineIs it possible to deposit funds by way of a cheque directly to the Tang savings account at the ATM? Or, does one has to deposit the cheque to the chequing account and then request a transfer to savings?
Another question: Does Tang have a physical office? I know they had and maybe still have an office on Yonge Street.

I believe not. The last time I tried it failed and I asked support about it and they said that only the Chequing account is connected to the debit/atm card. Even though the ATM displays the Savings account, the transaction failed every time I tried to use it.

Save yourself the grief and deposit it via e-Deposit if you have that option.

I used the APP to e-deposit my cheques and I can deposit to the savings or chequing account.

OfflineAbility to deposit to their savings account by ATM was dropped long time ago. In fact, one won't be able to obtain a bank card with just a Tangerine Savings Account:
How can I deposit money in my Savings Account?
Here's how you can deposit money into your Savings Account using the Mobile Banking app or online:
- Transferring funds from another Tangerine Account or linked external bank account
- If you have a cheque to deposit you can use the Cheque-In feature on our Mobile Banking app
- Accepting Interac e-Transfer to your Savings Account

OfflineI think I still have a 4.2% offer on the table. I find it just a bit too difficult depositing funds with Tang.
1) They have no physical branches. Do they still have that office on Yonge?
2) I can't deposit funds directly to the savings account at an ATM. I have to deposit to a chequing account and then call Tang to transfer the funds from chequing (after the 5 day no interest credit hold) to Savings.

OfflineUnfortunately, the Yonge Street Café is gone.
All the Tangerine Cafés, except the one at their head office, were closed in 2020, according to their 2020 Public Accountability Statement:
Tangerine Café Locations As at October 31, 2020
Québec 1141, boul. de Maisonneuve Ouest, Montréal Ontario 3389 Steeles Avenue East, Toronto
221 Yonge Street, TorontoBritish Columbia 466 Howe Street, Vancouver The Tangerine Café previously located at 1002 17th Avenue SW in Calgary, Alberta was closed as of October 1, 2020.
Note: Due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, during 2020 all Tangerine Cafés were closed temporarily. A business decision has now been made that, with the exception of our Café located at 3389 Steeles Avenue East in Toronto, our Cafés will remain closed permanently.
In 2023, they decided the closure of the Steeles Avenue Café would be permanent:
Tangerine Café Closure
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tangerine Café at 3389 Steeles Avenue East in Toronto, Ontario was closed to the public indefinitely. In 2023, the Café closure became permanent.

OfflineTangerine's Vancouver branch is still listed on their web site, on Howe street. For at least since long before COVID-19, they won't do anything but let you use a computer terminal or point at a mail drop that actually went in the mail, not a courier. The one or two staffers would refuse all requests, even for information. They were basically there to unlock the doors and make sure nobody stole the computers.
Their former office on Broadway near Granville (from the ING days) was a real branch, and very helpful.

OfflineAll their Cafés, including the Howe Street one in Vancouver, are now gone.
Physical branches are hard to justify for an online-only bank. Tangerine Bank is really not for people who are looking for banking with a physical branch. Peter Aceto, one of their former CEO's, explained that in an interview with Canadian Business:
You’re very clear about what you are as a brand and what you aren’t. In your book, you talk about “firing customers.” Why would you do that?
We’re a business model that is for a specific group of Canadians: We call them direct-ready consumers—anyone who shops online and buys online. So if there are consumers who really need a face-to-face interaction with their bank, we’re not going to be able to make them happy. They might like our rates, they might like that we don’t charge fees, but we need to make sure we don’t accidentally get customers who need the service those fees pay for. So we have to be thoughtful, sometimes, about saying, “I just don’t think we’re going to be able to make you happy.” And if we have to, we ask them to leave.
In my book I also talk about consumers treating our people badly—being rude to them. And I don’t think that’s acceptable in any context, so in the case I wrote about in the book, I felt I had an obligation to do something about it, and I did. I shut down their account.
