When you say refused, how did you refuse? You must have given them a call then? I ask because I got a promo rate today automatically, there wasn't an option to refuse for me.

I called in March 30th to move my money, and that's when I refused the 2%. I didn't ask they offered

I received an email April 5th for 3.21%

I'm from Ontario

Winnie are u still done with Tang?

I do not play Tangerine games.
Last year I received 3 good offers and they remained unused.
On Jan 5, 2017 I was offered 2.59% and yesterday, Apr 5, 2017 I received 2.97%.
I'm in Ontario.

Just got off live chatting with Tangerine, they confirmed when its a promo rate offered to you, then its automatic and you do NOT have to activate anything.

Thanks for letting me know moneyhelp!

Hello. Sorry for the delay. To resume, Was on a retention offer renewed every 3 months on the phone since last June for a good amount. Decided to try posted suggestion this time and I opened a checking account last week and transfer all of money from my saving account into it. Got my first offfer in a long time on April 5th. 3.21%. I am from Quebec. Also my wife's saving account has been empty since last June and she also got a 3.21% offer on April 5th. First offer since I emptied her account. I will most probably try the same strategy in 3 months.

Thanks to all who answered the "province question". In summary, the answers received from BC, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan did not show any link to any specific province. i.e. People got all kinds of offers all over the country... but none for me 🙁 … maybe next time !

That's what they are doing THIS time, but it doesn't mean that's what they will do next time. I think they must derive some sadistic joy out of confusing us with different kinds of offers where we must read the fine print carefully so as not to lose out. The devil is famously in the details! sf-wink

No Spring Promo offer for either mine or my wife's accounts (Ontario).

Previously I had a 90-day 2% retention offer (expired April 7), applied to full account balance (up to $500K). I just phoned in this morning and was offered exactly the same rate and terms for the next 90 days.

The last time we were offered something from Tang (without me having to call in) was my wife's account for their Summer 2016 promo (2.54% on new money only).

I hate having to phone every quarter and beg for a better rate, but I have yet to find another institution that both offers a competitive rate and has sufficient functionality on their website. e.g. multiple accounts (individual and joint), scheduled transfers, account nicknames, archived statements, etc.

It is my understanding (I might be wrong) that everybody who got an offer moved out their money by the end of March. That is what I did, based on the "receipe" discussed here 100 times. I did not get anything. In your case, did you move out your money or just let it go ?

Even people who left all the money in their account were offered promo on new money.

One I know called to ask for a retention offer and was denied.

I think the primary reason people move their money out by the end of each quarter is so that if they are offered a "new money only" promo, it gets applied to the entire balance instead of just "new money".

I think all the "recipes" for being offered a promo are just conjecture. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a large random component to it - randomized controlled trials and A/B testing are the current "hot" thing.

In any case, to answer your question, I didn't empty any of my accounts before the end of the quarter. My wife's accounts (individual and joint where she is primary) have been empty since the end of the Summer 2016 promo. She puts her money into joint accounts where I am primary, to take advantage of the retention offer.

I maybe wrong but I don't think you could get a special offer of any kind if at the date of the special offer announcement (this time April 5th) you still had a current and valid retention offer.
