Same thing. I’ll be moving cash to Simplii where we still have a decent promo rate till the end of January.

We’ve been playing the promo game by moving between HSBC, Tang and Simplii and had promos without gaps for something like 5 years. HSBC bailed out first. Would be a shame if this “offer” means that Tang is bailing out too. Not a big deal really but has been a nice tradition to get some pocket change from playing these promos.

Once you hit $500,000, does the full balance earn the 3%? I've seen that with another bank.

Yes.
Example: If as of close on February 1, 2026, the Eligible Client has a US$ Savings Account balance of $20,000, a Tangerine Savings Account balance of $20,000, a Tangerine Investment Fund Account with a book value of $20,000 and an RSP Investment Fund Account with a book value of $20,000, the Total Daily Balance on closing on that date will be $80,000, and a Tiered Savings Rate of 2.50% will apply to all of the Eligible Client’s Eligible Savings Accounts for that day.

The footnote in the offer e-mail also says the applicable rate will apply to the entire closing balance of the eligible savings accounts:

Total Daily Balance Interest Rate*‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌
$0-$49,999 2.00%
$50,000-$99,999 2.50%
$100,000-$499,999 2.75%
$500,000+ 3.00%

* The Savings Tiered Rate Offer (the “Offer”) is only available to existing Tangerine Clients who have received this communication directly from Tangerine. Tiered Savings Rates are valid from February 1, 2026 to July 31, 2026 (“Promotion Period”) on daily closing balances in eligible Tangerine Savings Accounts, Tax-Free Savings Accounts, RSP Savings Accounts, RIF Savings Accounts, and US$ Savings Accounts (“Eligible Savings Accounts”). Subject to certain valuation rules as set out in the Offer Terms and Conditions, Tiered Savings Rates are determined based on the sum of the daily closing balances/book values of the following Tangerine Accounts where the Eligible Client is the Primary Account Holder (“Total Daily Balance”): …. During the Promotion Period the applicable Tiered Savings Rate will be applied to the entire closing balance in the Eligible Savings Accounts.

I noticed the Feb 1, 2026-July 31, 2026 targeted promotion in my Insights this morning though it's a bit better than what others have posted:

Earn a Savings rate based on your Total Daily Balance*
$0 to $49,999 | 2.75%
$50,000 to $99,999 | 3.00%
$100,000 to $499,999 | 3.15%
$500,000 and above | 3.25%

So is no one getting extensions to the standard promo interest rate?

My term expired at the end of January and neither an extension or tiered rate offer has come in. Virtually all funds have been moved out, but I'm just hedging a bit on whether to lock things in. sf-confused

Interesting side note: I opened a second Savings Account to see if it would also have the promo rate. I have (had) a plan to dump some incoming funds into it.

The balance was ZERO, yet it earned $1.60 in "Promotional Bonus Interest". I should have opened a million accounts. Then I'd be a millionaire!

Just got off the phone with a Tangerine CSR. I wanted to do an external transfer out to another bank and the CSR ask "are you transferring money out because of interest rates" I said yes, the Tangerine rate was not good. She replied, "I can offer you 3.1% for 90 days if you don't transfer". I queries her about this and she said they have discretion to offer preferred rates to clients looking to transfer out their funds. I proceeded with the transfer as I don't appreciate the approach that Tangerine are taking on this, only offering good rates to people who call and letting everyone else suffer with their terribly low base rates.

I just got off the phone with a CSR who tells me that if one is already on a certain level of tiered rates, they are unable to change those rates, even when I threaten to move my money out. So I am stuck at the 2.25% level for a balance of 100K-500K, and unable to get the 3.15% others have been offered. My arguments included that I never asked to be on tiered rates, and that I can get 4.7% currently at Meridian. The CSR would not budge.

yogibo50, were you already on the tiered rates when you called in?

That's what he said and confirms what I thought was a "death sentence" (overly dramatic) for anyone used to TNG's promo lottery. My spouse's promo ends Feb 28 and I'm expecting she'll be getting tiered. So, all our TNG funds will be relocating in the last week of Feb.

Maybe they'll change their tune with the money flows out.

I had a 3.45% promo rate offer which expired Jan 31st. For various reasons I had >$100K in TNG towards the end of that offer but was planning to move it elsewhere after expiry. To my surprise I saw in these first few days in early Feb a "Current Rate" of 3.15% on my Savings Accounts. ( Actually wondered if that was somehow a mistake : promo rate 3.45% minus regular Savings Account rate 0.3% = 3.15% ??? (:^)).

After ~ 1 hour on the phone with a TNG CSR, and a couple of episodes of him going off to check with someone else, he explained about TNG introducing tiered rates, and said that
- there was no "opt-in" required : the 3.15% was applied to my account automatically when the previous promo expired - out of the goodness of their hearts I guess !
- and that this 3.15% rate would apply for a fixed time until Jul 31st, regardless of the account balances

The CSR asked why I was questioning it : did I want to get a lower rate ??? Eventually he understood that I was asking the question because I had no other information.
Although he claimed that TNG had sent me an email about introducing tiered rates, I have not received such an email, nor is there a message in my TNG-login Inbox.

The CSR said there was no way they could resend the original email and there was no other documentation they could send me about how tiered rates would be implemented. So I'm very happy to have found this thread and picked a few more clues which may (or may not I guess) apply to me individually.

Look for an e-mail around January 23 with the subject

🆕 Exclusive 6-month offer: Tangerine Tiered Savings Rates*

from

"Tangerine" <forwardbanking@email.tangerine.ca>

Unfortunately, 3.15% wasn't one of the tiers in my tiered-rate offer:

Total Daily Balance Interest Rate*‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌
$0-$49,999 2.00%
$50,000-$99,999 2.50%
$100,000-$499,999 2.75%
$500,000+ 3.00%

Thanks norman1 : I have searched my email fairly thoroughly and am convinced that I received no such message. I do wonder if the missing message could be due to the GMail outage over that weekend.
From https://www.google.com/appssta.....6annsfytjQ
"Incident began at 2026-01-24 13:02 and ended at 2026-01-24 17:55 (UTC)."
It was described as a spam-filtering failure, but I suppose it's possible that some genuine messages went astray as well as bogus spams getting through.

Re rate : I guess my rates and duration match up with what elephantinroom reported in #47. (BTW : there is no mention of the tiered interest rate offer in my Insights, unlike elephantinroom's case.)

My remaining query is : in the emails or Insights that other folks have received, is there any indication what happens after the tiered-rate period expires ? (Jul 31 in my case.)
TIA.
