It is not a 'promotion'. It is 'retention rate' as I understand from above posts. It is not worth to call and 'negotiate' as you can currently get 1.25% on HISA at few other FIs.

reg rep will offer 1%, retention will be 1.25%.

But others typically do not offer that rate on US$. AFAIK the only other competitive rate on US$ is EQ @ 1%. ATM.

Tangerine can do better than that. I have their 1.5% offer for up to 1M USD till September 1st.

Thanks members. I'll stick with the Manulife 2% until September. Tangerine is simply not competitive now.

My promo also ended on June 30th. No promos. So shuffled USD to EQBank for the 1.0% and the CAD to Hubert as EQBank's limit system prevented me from moving more money over.

Good for you. It seems like tangerine lottery has multiple prizes too. U won the jackpot, some gets 1.25%, some gets 1%, some gets "thank you for playing"

Some weren't invited to play.

By virtue of being a Tang customer (SA, TFSA, etc.) you are Automatically entered in each Tang 'Special Rate' Lottery ... no Invitation required.

Some Win / Most Lose ... them's the breaks. sf-smile

On the other hand, if you never gave any business to Tangerine in the past, you can walk in off the street and get their 2.40% (or whatever it is to-day). Tangerine more often than not does not reward loyalty.

I called and was offered 1%. I told them that I will look for someplace else. They called today and offered 1.2%. I'm having trouble finding a better rate.

Isn't Canadian Tire offering 1.55% HISA, at the moment?

Check this helpful chart: https://www.highinterestsavings.ca/chart/

It has at the time of me writing this 6 FIs with interest rate above 1.2%. Among them, Neo Financial is the fastest to open account with, if you have smartphone, government issued ID that has not expired, and don't mind sharing it and your selfie with them.

Canadian Tire Bank is the slowest, with account opening process as if it is frozen in 1990s, but in return for your patience they will offer you best return.

They seem to like you. Any idea what the secret is? They never offered me any special rate when I called weeks ago. Should I have a recent 6 figure balance to hope for a special/retention rate? Presently I have $1.85 and pulled my cash out 12 Months ago...

This might sound counterintuitive but you might actually get an offer as an incentive to bring over more funds.

I chose to pass on Cdn Tire Bank because of their Dark Ages process.

I usually pull my $ out of TNG the last week of their "offer" as their offers usually apply only to new funds so, it's best to start near $0.

Currently enjoying a Jun 5 to Oct 30 1.5% at TNG. Then back to Hubert ...

Thanks for that , Alexandre.

It's sad to hear that CTB is still back in the Dark Ages. sf-confused

I have 'No Tolerance' for HickBilly operations, so I think I'll Pass.

Talked to chat today, as my 1.75% rate is ending July 15, but they didn't offer me anything.

I'll shuffle over to my SO's account for 1.5% until August 31, but I'll keep an eye out for offers.

I seem to get skipped every other promotion, but luckily my SO is on the off cycle, so if past behaviour is any indication, I'll hopefully get a promotion before August 31.

In this context, I'm guessing SO = 'Significant Other'.
