https://www.meridiancu.ca/offers/terms-and-conditions/meridian-good-to-grow-high-interest-savings-account-(gtg-hisa)-boost-interest-rate-offer

I think this is much the same as a similar offer some months ago.
May be useful for new members, for old members who want a new account type (reg'd/not), or for those who had the foresight to close their disqualifying accounts more than six months ago.

If one has a Meridian "Online Advantage Savings Account"...does this offer apply?

What about this?https://www.meridiancu.ca/personal/investing/class-a-shares/invest-in-good-series-23-shares

Would this be considered a safe investment?

What concerns me is, "you can earn an annual 6.50%* minimum dividend rate (provided the Board declares a dividend for the series) ".

CU Investment Shares are not insured. See previous threads on this topic.

Meridian has claimed in the past that this is the same as the Good to Grow account, so it would disqualify you.

You may be able to open a joint account. If so, the offer would apply. Or to a new single account if the one you already have is joint.

Thanks for the replies. Seems a joint account is the only way to go.

Does Meridian still have excessive wait times for transfers (3+ days as was discussed a while back)?

I believe so, so to avoid delays, the best is to use check deposits for incoming or outgoing funds, as long as the receiving FI allows larger amounts by check.

Alternatively, you could PULL funds from Meridian using external FI's EFT services.

Yes still 3 biz days. Thats the only thing bad about them. But they do pick up the phone quickly, and offer some decent rates every now and then. Also if u bring in funds to purchase GIC etc, they can waive the 5 biz day holding period as well if u call in.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any requirement in the T&C that it must be "NEW" funds to qualify for the 5.75%. Also, do proceeds from a maturing Meridian GIC qualify as "NEW" funds?

It must be a new account. Any money would be new to a new account. You can fill it in from any source you like, including from another Meridian account.

Thanks. This is unlike Tang and Simplii where they would take a "snapshot" of your balances across all your accounts on August 22nd.

I have an account still active from a previous promotion and received the same response on the phone .... but the CSR offered to transfer the call to my branch manager. He approved it without a hassle.

Yes - the manager can approve the 5.75% rate even if you already have a HISA.
Note the increases in Meridian's Service Charges effective September 1st including new fees on Seniors Accounts too.

Charges do not impact HISA accounts directly. Only a concern to a HISA owner if he uses a chequing account to move the money out of Meridian.

Is Meridian available to Quebec residents? Google search says no, but this website says yes. https://www.highinterestsavings.ca/profile/meridian-credit-union/
