I'm earning 3% with DUCA until 06/01/2020.

05/20/2020 I called Tangerine to see if I can get 2.5%. CSR said yes. CSR advised call back when you transfer funds on 06/01/2020 so I dont waste 10 days of 2.5% promo on no money.

05/30/2020 I called Tangerine to transfer funds and apply 2.5%. CSR stated they cant offer me 2.5%. Manager also says I cant get. Notes say "I declined 2.5%".

I'm furious right now playing phone games with these people. What can I do to get the 2.5%? Any other banks I should go to instead?

Note: I'm a non-resident Canadian. Cant use banks such as EQ, Manulife, Simplii, etc.

Have you checked with DUCA? Your promotion may have been extended to June 30, 2020.

I had a similar situation with Tangerine a while back where the CSR agreed to the promo, which was later refused after the funds were transferred in. Tangerine is on my 100% avoid list.

Have you considered Motive with a Saavy savings account that currently pays 2.05%?

Tangerine can be very sleazy (or at best incompetent) about discussing rates. You have to listen very very carefully to what they say as it may not be what you thought they said.
I was once promised a certain rate , which I thought was on all funds as that had clearly been what we had been discussing, but at the very last minute, after I'd agreed to it, the CSR said it didn't apply to existing funds. I wouldn't have agreed if I'd known. They wear down your patience and your alertness with endless back and forth, which is totally unnecessary.

I do not call most of the time.

I saw a deal with Scotiabank Visa in April. I applied. It is amazing what I went to get a simple CC. Turned down. I applied for a TD Visa that has a good cashback. The process was simple.

Is that the one where the introductory cashback rate of 6% on all purchases during the first 3 months (up to a maximum spend of $2,000 or $200 cashback) then 3% gas & groceries and 1% on everything else with an annual fee of $120?

The annual fee is waved for 12 months. Since I do not beleove in fee based CC I will cancel before 12 months.

I would suggest clarifying the rewards redemption policy of TD to ensure you collect all your rewards before the renewal date of the card and the mandatory charge of the annual fee to your account.

Seems a no brainer, except the policy of cards administered by Collabria is that it can take up to two billing cycles before receiving cashback rewards, which is an outrageous policy, compared to most other cards, and one that is not publicized in their terms and conditions, leading people who expect to cash out and cancel their Collabria credit card at the last minute prior to renewal to be caught with an unwanted renewal charge or forfeit of earned rewards.

I believe most if not all Canadian credit unions employ Collabria to administer their credit cards, but I don't know about banks or other FI's.

Tangerine will 99.9% of the time honor the commitment made by their service reps over the phone. Everything's recorded and they can/will review their recordings if asked.

Many here in this forum have had the same complaint... but the csr said. Their problems have always been resolved, it may take days if not weeks but it will be resolved.

I actually stop at least two cycles before the annual fee is assessed NOW. The balance goes to zero. I have plenty of time to cancel. Depends on how well I like their cashback payment process. I have done this before over the years. I have used a card right up to the day before the 12 statement. I cancelled. I paid 1/12 annual fee for 1 month. No more. I setup a reminder to stop using card. I start using the card I use regularly.

All the years my wife and I have been dealing with Tangerine they've been top notch. In fact the 180 degree opposite of "sleazy", in my experience since the first days of ING. I notice some people on here who have difficulty with them seem to have regular difficulties with other fi's on various matters, maybe some people are just difficult. Or else clearly Tangerine is selecting who they want to attract and who's a pain to them, geez I wonder how they make that determination?

My wife's promo ended yesterday, she called today and said before I move it do you have anything, within a few minutes they came back with a very attractive rate for the next 90 days on her existing and new deposits. Same as usual sf-cool

I started with ING Direct in November 2000. I am pleased with them. That is why I have been a client so long.
My promo with Tangerine ended yesterday as well. 3% on new money. I will not call. I expect a promo overnight. The next three months may work out quite well. If the rate is above 1.75% I will leave the new money in Tangerine. I will not move my reserve fund to Tangerine. I am happy where it is. Do you mind telling me what rate your wife is getting for the next 3 months? I will tell you the rate on Tuesday if I get a new promo.

I just posted to let people know that if Tangerine likes you they're still giving promos if you call them.

Some folks here will call Tangerine and whine if they don't get at least the same offer, then come back here and slag Tangerine (or else if they get more they're quite happy to take it), so I'm not going to post what my wife got. She's happy, that's all that matters is you're happy with what they offer you, no need to compare to what others are getting. Everybody's aware of roughly what the going rates are these days, if you're not happy then turn them down and find the place that makes you happy. You've done that, 1.75% is your limit, hope you get it or even more.

I have a friend that claims when he calls he gets a special rate. I checked once. He gets the same rate as everyone else on a given day. Thank you for responding. Best wishes.

I myself, love to know what others are receiving from tangerine because tangerine have a habit of playing one client, off another. One of my original posts here to this forum was the response letter from their ombudsmen. My bother in law received a far superior rate to the one i was offered.

My current offer of 2.5% for 180 days on "ALL" money expires at the end of August 2020. If tangerine are offering a particular rate to some...and not "me", i'll move my money elsewhere BUT i first need to know of what my goal rate should be.
