Effective on November 9, 2023, DUCA is going self-serve for opening Promo accounts and self-serve for transfers to the Promo account. No phone call required!

They are also eliminating the end date apparently "allowing you to enjoy the promotion without any time restrictions" but I suspect it's more like "we're not committing to a duration for 6.25% and we're giving us the option to reduce the rate at any time".

Will DUCA give reasonable advance notice if they discontinue the promo?

If they do decide to discontinue the rate it's much easier for me to move my funds elsewhere.

Actually, you can do that now. You can move $ out of the promo account and then push it or pull it as you wish. Currently you just can't add $ to the promo account.

I've been reluctant to move money out sometimes because it's a hassle to move it back. I didn't mean that with this change you are able to move it out, I meant it will be easier to do what I want and move my money where ever I want, including back in or out.

Whenever there is a rate change, promo or not, there is no obligation to give 'reasonable advance notice'. Most are immediate / next day and I rarely was given a "heads up" either. That applies to GIC change too in most instant (There are a couple of CUs that will give u the email heads up, big6, not a chance)

Wow, the rate dropped to 5.75% so quickly? This is not a good sign.

I logged into my account, it still shows 6.25%.

Lol, so if this isn't an error, they're technically they're breaking their own rules as I see on the website it lists 5.75% everywhere now and it's not Nov 9th yet, unless the note at the bottom was effective immediately and the service change is the only thing changing on the 9th. My account details still shows 6.25%, but all banners show 5.75%.

My read is that if you have an existing promo at 6.25% till Jan 31, you should be at 6.25% till Jan 31 but it seems new accounts will now be 5.75%

sf-laugh That makes sense in todays climate where you pay more to buy tickets etc online vs doing it in person!

Does that mean you also won't be able to transfer in on your own if your grandfathered, sf-wink.

The sloppiness of communication is just crazy. I just accept now how any transaction goes is based on luck of the draw.

I'm guessing you will get the DIY ability to add to your promo account. But your rate is grandfathered because that's the offer they made that you accepted. Until Jan 31 ... Enjoy it ...
