I know I may be stating the obvious but, to get a definitive answer , go beyond the "one who answers the phone" or who is on "live chat". Speak to someone higher up. I would think that any payment for a service or product whose supplier takes a Tangerine card, and pays a service charge for that privilege, would qualify for the rebate. As always, I could be wrong, but this just makes sense to me.

Totally know what you mean but the issue is no one at Tangerine (even front line managers) want to "own it" to say whether insurance payment qualifies or not. So it does not matter who you speak to and the answer is what they spell out in the fine print, unfortunately.
Maybe the VP or above can say it with certainty, but you cant reach that level...

Get cozy with a $250 Bonus.*
Apply for a Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card by March 31, 2020, and if you’re approved and spend at least $5,000 on everyday purchases in your first 3 months, we’ll put a $250 credit on your Account. That’s like $250 back in your pocket.

I had forgotten about this promo and in my mind, I hadn’t achieved the goal, well apparently, I did. Today I received an e-mail from Tangerine saying 250$ will be credited to my tang MasterCard. Wow, I don’t believe it and to think I wanted to get rid of that card. Thanks Tangerine!

Tangerine has been pimping me their Mastercard World card in the insights. I'll hold off until I see something like that $250 credit back on your account that they offered a few months ago on the Money-Back card. Their current promo is a reward of 15% up to $150, so it's $100 less than the previous promo, but that $250 promo was on top of the cashback, so you would have received 2% back + the $250 promo, so the current promo is pretty lame. Furthermore, the card(s) still have a forex fee.

Same here implode but I don't have any promo or reward being offered. sf-confused
Perhaps it is because I already have their basic card and they are just trying to get me to upgrade. I really don't see the added value. Do you already have a Tangerine Mastercard?

If they offer me something like $250-$500 promo for spending I can make that work.. and I'll just cancel before I have to pay for anything..

just recd my $300 which was the 15% on $2000 promo few months ago.
With all the WE card perks around $200-$300, just wait until they offer you something similar, especially if you are already a Tang customer.
Keep in mind the new card user perks may not be as high now given it is a no fee card compare to the WE (which are $99-149 but FYF),but you should receive some perks for applying.
Also check out GreatCanadianRebates promo, I was able to tag on the $75 on top when I applied back in March.
Good luck

Did anyone get their Tang MasterCard cash back paid into their savings account at Tang this month (IF that's your usual way of receiving it)? Its usually paid on the 7th or 8th, its the 11th and hasn't happened yet for me. I phoned in 2 days ago and the rep seemed to know how much it was, concluding that it must be delayed because of the long weekend.

Yup. Mine is paid on the 3rd of the month. And yes I received the cash back on September 3rd.

The cash back is paid dated the statement date for me, although it does not appear online until the next day.

Not really an upgrade for me. I consider it a downgrade if it goes from the 28 day to a 21 day grace period on the new card. It offers nothing that I don't already have with other cards. With all the competitive incentives coming out lately, I only use it for the categories I've selected and nothing else.
All my cash was moved out when my promo expired Aug 31 and still no new offer to date.
dougjp: My bonus gets deposited on the 16th. Haven't had any issues with it being late so far. I AM having an issue with their categories. I've made several purchases at JYSK over the last year and the ALL gave me 2% cashback. Made a large purchase there last month and they only paid out .5%. They say it's the store...I call BS based on prior purchases, I've always used the same store, and I haven't changed categories since last spring.
They are checking every box on the list of why they are more trouble than they're worth. I miss ING sf-cry

Our Tangerine 'Credit Card Rewards Redemption' is usually paid to our Tangerine SA on the 8th of every month ... but not always ❗

As an example, this month (Sept.) it was paid on the 5th, for some reason.

This happened to be too, but with another retailer (sorry, can't remember the name). I eventually found out that the store, for some reason, had changed it's category, and so it no longer qualified for the Tangerine CC 2% cashback.

You might want to check into it ... JYSK may have changed their category.

The regular and world mastercard's both have a 28 day grace period. I don't know why many think that it goes down to 21 if you upgrade to world mastercard.

UPDATE - Cash back was not paid because of a long weekend system delay in recognizing my monthly credit card payment. My due date when I paid happened to be the Friday before a long weekend, but the system started calculating late payment interest early the same day.....the system reversed the late interest automatically but didn't allow the cash back payment (?). Anyway after several calls, I'm told I will receive the past month's cash back at the next cycle in early October. I was told I could avoid this (first time) nuisance problem if I paid earlier than the due date sf-frown

Its quite confusing as they take no responsibility whether a certain retailer belongs to a particular category.
For my Fido bill, my small payment is 2% but a larger payment the next month is 0.5%...
Tangerine is my back up card only, maybe for restaurant purchase only for the 2%.

Tangerine just looks at the merchant category code and the recurring payment flag on the charges. All the category-based credit card programs work the same way.

It is up to the merchant to set or not set the recurring payment flag. It is between the merchant and its acquirer what its merchant category is. Walmart, for example, is a discount store for Visa charges. For MasterCard charges, some Walmart stores are grocery stores and some are discount stores.

I checked the T&C when the World Elite was first offered and that was what made the difference for me to decide not to "upgrade".

I have the world mastercard and it's 28 days for me (in a 31-day month). The statement date, 27th, and due date, 24th, remain the same.

Nice...was it a new application or did you upgrade?
