I tried logging in yesterday and it wouldn't let me in. I guessed maybe something wrong with their system, so I tried several times with no success. Within an hour I got a letter from them

"made the decision to end our banking
relationship with you and close your High Interest Savings Account effective immediately. This is done in accordance with the Terms and Conditions governing your Account....Future requests to open any account or product with Wealth One Bank of Canada will be declined."

I called today and the CSR had no further information but is looking into it.

Another FI changed the limit on once of my credit cards to zero due to inactivity. I had not used it for 5 years! It was an emergency only second credit card and I have not had a financial emergency in the last 5 yrs (touch wood).

Perhaps the FIs are cleaning up their books to prepare for lean times, there are reports of bad debts and delinquencies going up. https://www.canadianmortgagetrends.com/2023/11/delinquencies-rising-for-borrowers-with-400k-mortgages-cmhc-report-shows/

I can't say for sure, but rumor has it that if your monthly CPC dues
aren't paid up ... W1BoC will give you The Boot ❗

Credit cards that are inactive for years are considered riskier because the cardholder may no longer be monitoring the use of the card.

TD closed a Visa card after a few years of inactivity. Bank of Montreal has a $10 inactivity fee on some of their MasterCards that's applied after no activity for twelve consecutive billing cycles.

Generally, i ensure at least one charge per year on an 'unused' card but I agree with Norman that it could be at risk if it is not monitored regularly.... or have alerts set up for ANY charge.

I'm not sure if Dean is meaning "Communist Party of Canada" or "Conservative Party of Canada" when he references "CPC," but it was the Liberal Party of Canada that cozied up to W1 when they were setting up.

The Chinese Communist Party is usually "CCP," and its country "PRC" for Peoples' Republic of China. (At least they got the apostrophe right, unlike Peoples Group, Starbucks and Shoppers Drug Mart!)

I would honestly prefer coffee from the Communist Party of China than Tim Hortons'. They couldn't pay me enough to drink that stuff.

Yesmath: if you really want to deal with W1, then maybe try going through a broker. Still insured through CDIC.

I personally won't deal with W1 for any reason -- I don't care what they are offering -- but everyone has their own rules.

The operative word is 'usually' (i.e. commonly) ... but 'Officially', it's CPC (Communist Party of China) :
