Usually, the second-factor SMS text message is sent after the correct password has been provided. So, someone either has your login password or has provided your cellphone number as theirs by mistake.
For a cellphone number to register properly, one has to input a verification code text to the phone number to validate it the first time, so someone who enters the wrong phone number ny mistake can NOT sucessfully registered the wrong phone number as their 2 factor verification method.

Thank you all. This happened one more time after I posted here. After I received the latest false verification code, I changed my password and activated alert service for (1) Password Changed, (2) Online Login, (3) Online Banking Account Locked Out - Incorrect Password, (4) Online Banking Account Locked Out - Incorrect response to Login Verification and (5) Interac e-Transfer® contact added.
