Remember at the end of March when Tangerine 1 year GIC was at 2.8%. On March 31st I opened a GIC 1 year account online and transferred some money the same day. On April 1st the money was there at the end of the day so I check if the GIC was activate but it was not. Same thing on April 2 so I decided to call Tangerine to check with them. They told me that they did not see the creation of the GIC and that I must have made a mistake and cancelled it before the process was complete. The rate had changed during the night and the rate was now 2.5% for the 1 year GIC. At the time I thought that it was possible that I had made a mistake and I did not have a screen capture to prove my story so I did not push it but they finally offered me a 3 month rate of 2.5% on my saving account so I took that offer.

This is the fun part, on April 15th I got an email from Tangerine saying that they could not complete my GIC because the money was never transferred and that the 15 day delay was past. So it looks like I had not made a mistake and that their system had a bug. So again I called them and waited an hour to finally speak to a CSR who could not help me because they were no supervisor in the office. I am now waiting for a call back from a supervisor and I will let you know how the story end.

Hoping this is not the response from Tangerine...

"You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little f#@ked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to f$#kin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?"

I was hoping for a Tangerine limerick, or something like "A priest, a minister and a rabbi walk into the Tangerine back office ..."

Slybanking, it's not clear to me what happened. You say you opened a GIC account. From where did you fund the GIC purchase on March 31? You also say you transferred some money. From where to where did you transfer the money?

Slybanking...

My sister had issues with a promised offer from tangerine and the bank DID honor their commitment, after a review of the matter. She was promised a rate over the phone, she transferred money in, only weeks later did she discover the promised rate had not been applied. She had the name of the person she had spoken to and the date. IT'S WHY I TRANSFERRED THE MONEY to tangerine in the first place.

It all worked out satisfactorily, this happened in January of 2020, so it's recent.

When I opened the GIC, I did not have any money at Tangerine but you have 15 day to fund the GIC account and your rate is guarantied for that 15 days. So on March 31st I pulled the money from BMO to be transfer at Tangerine and the money arrived on April 1st.

Update: Finally a supervisor called me back and after a little discussion and me insisting on the fact that the system had a bug, they did give me the 2.8% rate the one year GIC.
