Email from Tang, effectively extending March-May offer at a lower rate.

Here’s what else you need to know:

• You’ll earn 3.35%* interest from June 1, 2025 until August 31, 2025
• This will apply to existing and new Tangerine Savings Account(s), including RSP, TFSA and US$
• This will apply to the new money you brought to your Account(s) since March 6, 2025

Not quite sure if the money transferred ON March 6 are covered but assume so.

I had a 4.15% extention promo til the end of March, since then, crickets. Might be because the 4.15% wasn't overly enticing and I chose to deposit elsewhere, other than for holding USD and a few hundred CAD for backup.

Not everyone got an extended period to the offer ... not even at a different rate. I got "Your special Savings Rate Offer is ending in ... days" in my Inbox ... one for each eligible account sf-frown

is it possible that the limited time offers are no longer profitable with the new regime of very low rates?

I think Tang is a funding source for BNS. Maybe BNS doesn't need more money?

My promo ended June 1st, all my money is elsewhere and no new offer from Tangerine. I'm waiting...

WARNING ⬆ . . .

From my experience, it could take 'Several' Months.

Meanwhile, I'm getting 2.80% at my Oaken SA. Nothing to get excited about, but it's better than the usual 0.30% @ Tangerine.

Same here. I'm hiding out at Oaken, for the foreseeable future.

I have friends that have accounts with Oaken, I’ve given it a thought. I presently hide in a money market account at 2,80%, my daily banking is with Alterna. Tangerine will come around, if not, I’m not unhappy.

I'm stashing cash at Oaken, but only in GICs. It's too much a pain to keep track of savings accounts without mailed statements. And I won't enable on-line banking.

So I'm happy to have my main free money making 4.85% at VanCity for the next two months. We'll see what the market provides after that. I also have one cashable GIC elsewhere if there's a better option popping up OR a need for some quick cash.

Can an Ontario resident get the 4.85% at VanCity?

I believe Vancity is a provincially regulated credit union, so they can only accept applications from BC residents.

I don't think it's for regulatory reasons - VanCity has branches in other provinces as well as ATM access - but their policy bars membership by non-BC residents. On the other hand, I don't know if this applies to deposits secured through brokers.

But the 4.85% promo is a base account, not a deposit that can be remarketed, as far as I understand.

So, alas, no.
