How long have you been on hold? What time is the best to call?

I would have wanted this, but I was offered 2.5% on new deposits. As my account is essentially empty, it's almost the same as the entire balance offer 🙂

I called Tangerine, CSR did not give me rate promotion.
I found that Bank of Montreal offered 2.75%, Scotiabank offered 2.7%.
Then I called Tangerine again at 1‑888‑826‑4374 , I negotiated and said Bank of Montreal is offering 2.75%, Scotiabank is offering 2.7%. CRS then offered me 2.5% for entire, non-registered balance. CRS told me 2.5% for maximum $500,000.
In order to get rate promotion, you should negotiate and tell Tangerine other banks are offering better rates than Tangerine.....

I can not remember. When called Tangerine, how long I was on hold, but I did remember it took a while to get through. It seemed take 40 minutes to get through.

I recently spoke with CSR this week and was able to get 2.5% for 3 months only. I had 6 cents in my accounts lol. Kind of annoying that I had to call them and it was only for 3 months duration. I was only on hold for 10 mins though. They only gave me an offer after I told them the amount I could bring back to Tangerine.

On a side note, as I wrote this my gf just got the same offer emailed to her for new deposits up to 1 million until Sept 30th!

Hey laurien, how is BMO offering 2.75%? Is that in their smart savers account? Do you simply call a 1-800 number to ask for a special rate? We opened a smart saver account when they had a promo of 2.85%. When it ended we spoke to someone at the physical bank and they said they could not offer anything beyond the crappy usual interest rate, something like 0.05%
Thanks

Hi Windsurfer,
I browsed bank of Montreal website and knew the promotion:
https://www.bmo.com/main/personal/bank-accounts/new-bank-account-offers-and-promotions/?icid=ba-US32896EDB4-DMUM14
I called CSR in BMO, the promotion is for new BMO cheque account and give extra rate promotion for Saving account at 2.75%. I am not sure 2.75% is for new Saving account or existing saving account. CRS told me I have to go to BMO branch to open a new cheque account, the branch will offer me 2.75% for Saving AC for 3 months, 6 months, normally 6 months.
As I knew, only Tangerine bank, you can negotiate special interest rate. I decided to keep my money in Tangerine rather than go to BMO branch.

RBC is offering 2.25% for new eSaving account, and 1.25 % term 1 year cashable GIC, you can withdraw your deposit partially and fully after 30 days, Get a guaranteed interest rate of 1.25% on your deposit for 12 months.

https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/dms/investments/psi/savings-gic/index.html

CIBC is offering 1.25% 1 year CIBC flexible GIC too, for all of customers. you can withdraw your deposit partially and fully after 30 days, Get a guaranteed interest rate of 1.25% on your deposit for 12 months.

Also, CIBC is offering 1.5 % non redeemable GIC .

All are good interest rates.

You can get 1.8% with Alterna Bank or even 2.05% with LBC digital and they're not «specials» !
