Just received an email which I originally thought was about the early Jan '18 promo. You know, the one some of us missed out on because they changed their typical start dates. This one seems very similar, with the 2.5% on new money. See what you think........

I wonder if they are going to start offsetting the offers so not everyone gets new promos or expiries at the same time.

I always wondered what those CSRs did in the 'quiet' period every quarter. There must have always been a flurry of calls just after targeted offers went out in the first week of the quarter. Then quiet for almost 3 months. So this way, the pattern will be monthly.

neil, were you offered the 2.5% Jan offer? If so, did you accept? I'm thinking you got this because currently you're not on any offer - ?

Bill, you're correct. In Jan I had been offered the 2.5% promo but ignored it. I'd been slow removing my money and had too much "existing" money in my savings account to make it worth while moving funds back. As you recall, I would have only received the promo rate on the amount moved back and it didn't make sense to me.

I'm further evidence that they may be targeting clients whose money is either not already tied to a promotion or gone AWOL. The last Tang offer I was in was a 2.5% retention rate that ended 1/19/2018. By that time I'd not received the latest promo offer and I couldn't ask for a retention rate as I'd moved all monies to Simplii for their 3%. I did call around the end time to see what kind of offer I could get to bring money back, but after the usual hold to check with a supervisor, I was told nothing was available, but that I should "call back in a few days". That was a first. I didn't bother calling as it's always a pain, figuring I'd wait closer to the Feb 28th ending of the Simplii promotion. I was thus pleasantly surprised to get Tang's above mentioned offer via email today.

Good on you for not calling back. It never ceases to amaze me, the arrogance of Tangerine. Either you want my money, or you don't.

In January I had moved ALL my money from the Tangerine Savings account to my external BMO account, but got NO offer of 2.5 %.
So I moved the money back to Tangerine and just kept it in Tangerine Savings at 1 %.
February 1 , I just moved it from Tangerine Savings to Tangerine Checking in anticipation of a new offer, and I got the 2.5 % on February 
, go figure.
No 2.5 % offer in January , but a 2.5 % offer in February 🙂
I think checking to Savings counts as new money as I had moved it to checking on February 1 , well before the snap shot day of February 5.
Weird they still count Tangerine checking to savings as NEW money & NEW deposit for Savings Account, TFSA & RSP Savings account
