Brian, I think CDIC is better than the provincial insurance, moreover, MAXA, Acclerate and Achieve all charge fees if you withdraw more than 1 per month.

Consider CDF also offer 1.9%, I will prefer to sacrifice a bit of interest for the sake of convenience and safety.

I agree with you Jon.
Perhaps Hubert would be a better choice of the CUs because I think they do allow more than the usual one free transfer out per month with no fee, and the interest rate is 1.95%.
However, the safety factor would remain a concern to you.

I just park my money in my savings account at Hubert, which besides being the hub for all of my transactions also pays a reasonable 1.95% rate. If a new, better offer comes up at another institution, I can quickly get it there via Hubert.

I guess it depends on where you open your account before, I already have a CDF account prior to this, and I don't think it worth me the hassle to open another account just for tiny bit of interest.
