I do not have computer or cellphone access, so I always have to use the telephone call centre for any changes to my account. One month ago, they had a security change. Now, for any new external linkages via the phone centre, a copy of photo ID must be included FOR EACH AND EVERY NEW LINKAGE. Of course, this is impossible for me. I use unsecure computers and will not risk interception and this new requirement pretty much invalidates my Tang accounts. I have requested a call from a supervisor for this impediment. Because Tang only has 3 possible links, I find myself changing them quite often.

Anyone else encounter this level of stupidity? Hubert now calls to verbally confirm each and every new linkage. I can even tolerate this level if idiocy, but can find no way around Tang's new measure. For crimony sake, I already have to enter my ID and PW whenever I call the centre to verify myself. sf-yell

IMO, Tang made it clear a year or so ago that they didn't want to deal with people who don't use computer when they implemented a surcharge if you don't use online access.
I wasn't aware of this new wrinkle as I don't deal with them any more.
I suggest you move on. They aren't worth the bother.

I don't mind if Hubert wants to call me to verify anything although I imagine that will be out the window once Access takes over.

Digital (or online) banking is exactly that. Computers and/or smartphones are a fundamental prerequisite.

Not everyone can use these devices for various reasons, both medical and financial as well as insufficient skills to maintain and troubleshoot the devices.

I guess the digital enthusiasts plan to make sure they never suffer from any such limitations.

That was the beauty of free-market capitalism, something for everybody. You can do your banking on your phone or you can head over to your local credit union, and everything in between.

I went with Tangerine years ago, when they were ING Direct, exactly because they positioned themselves as online bank. They did it even before online banking was a thing.

Tangerine is the last bank I'll choose if I can't use computer or smartphone to manage my account.

That *is* the point though. Fintech (online digital banking only) is for those who are tech savvy with computers and smartphones. Those not willing or able to bank by phone or computer have other places to do business with. I will no doubt do the same if and when I can no longer manage the technology. I have no doubt EQ Bank and LBC Digital will care about losing me as a customer.

There is no need for post #1 as an example to be critical of institutions like Tangerine who require use of such devices. That is their reason to be.
