It's a muddling experience !! (copy/paste from the T and C.). This seems to confirm what Mustang reported earlier.

Here’s how it works:
1. We’ve totalled up the balances of your eligible Savings as they were on August 6, 2024 to get your total balances per Account Type.
2. From August 7, 2024 to October 31, 2024, you’ll earn your special interest rate on new deposits over your total balances calculated on August 6, 2024 (up to $1,000,000.00† per Account Type)
3. The rest of your Account balance will earn the current posted rate

Has anyone done this and calculated whether such a GIC->Checking->Savings transfer actually generated the intended interest?

This might be enough justification for opening a TNG checking account ...

Just took up the 5.50% offer from Aug 6'24 to Oct 31'24. I took all my money out a few days before my last offer expired on July 31'24 for 5.75%. I have had 4 back-to-back offers from Tangerine now since July'23. With this latest offer I kept checking my Tangerine account until around August 11th'24 for any new offer but nothing showed up until I logged in yesterday (Aug 19'24). Still beats Motive's 4.10% HISA rate for now but I also moved some $ into Motive's 120-day GIC at 5.50% at the end of July.

We have also had a streak of back to back offers
But, always by about the 5th of the month
Very surprising to see an offer show up on the 19th!
I guess the thing to do is just to keep on looking!

Called for my next offering which is expiring on Aug 23. Tang offered me only 3.95%. (Previous was 3.75% which I shouldn't have taken).

I moved the majority of my money to DUCA's offer after the call. Went with Motive for my other funds.

I am fed up with my treatment from Tang this past year seeing all the good offers ours have received. I guess if you keep accepting low balls, they will continue to offer low balls.

MarkFog, your last sentence is exactly my observation too.

I believe they have me coded in some way, they seem to know I'll accept anything reasonable so I rarely if ever get the top promo rates others talk about on here, been like that for years now. On the other hand I'm rarely not on a promo rate, that's the good part, I guess. And as I'm not particularly fussed about getting the absolute best rate I'm not constantly having to move that money out and finding someplace else to put it. And often they have a very good gic rate for no particular reason on a term up to a year so I make use of those sometimes too.

I also received this new Tang offer, Aug 7 - Oct 31, 5.50%, following my July 31 offer ending. This is a continuation of a nice run of offers and/or extensions...thanks Tang, but I also got Simplii's 5.50% offer, Aug 1-Nov 15, and because I had already moved my Tang money, I did not , and won't accept Tang's offer this time (I just received a reminder email...)

I do wonder, and now I'll see how Tang handles my indifference this time around; I am curious if I'll continue to get offers in the short term. I am good until mid-November in any event, and I appreciate Simplii crediting bonus interest monthly now, instead of only after offer has ended.

Thanks, Bill.

I get what you are saying. Tang has been consist for me especially when DUCA hadn't been offering anything since the end of June until just a few days ago. When no offer is in place it's more difficult. I feel that Tang offered me a bit more than the last time because they are moderating my transfers and they are not stupid, they know they are a part of my banking profile. They are my main chequing account and and their ATM (tied with ScotiaBank) is easy access from my location.

I feel Ispwest's recent post is valid too. How Tang will treat those that do not accept their offer? Some have said they have been told they have been cut off from future Tang offers because some negative interaction with them. Which is an one sided only story that probably leans towards the client being very combative. I don't believe a bank which cut someone off, but who knows. Simplii has not offered me anything for years accept the US dollar 5.75% in a recent e-mail.

Only a small amount remains in my Tang Savings account which I use as my daily banking. The offer is only for 90 days, as all this banks are foreseeing more cutting in the future.

So I just got off the phone with Tang and it turns out they took the offer off the table even though the previous promo ends today. The other female representative from Wednesday said that I could call back any time to accept the 3.95% promo offer. So something is adrift here. So I go back to what I said earlier on this thread and with personal experience I can vouch that it IS Tang who is being combative not the client.

In 8 years I always had a promotion offer and have call back to accept an offer.. Now, when you don't take that offer upfront they pulled it from you. Seems pretty arrogant.

I doubt the CSR has any discretion, they can only do what the computer lets them.
Try calling in and get an appt with a Supervisor, they might be able to do something. Or not.
But all of this promo interest rate stuff are AI algorithms now.
I knew a PhD math guy, who's entire team just did equations on risk and benefit for a big bank, its just a numbers game to them. Soon the bank will be almost all AI bots.

The CSR put me on hold and said he had to speak to something else. I was on hold for like 5 minutes. He came back and said the offer was removed from my file because I didn't accept the offer the first time. It wasn't him that said it, but the other person he spoke to.

If it is AI bots, then again they are watching my actions and penalizing me for not accepting the offer. It doesn't matter to me and I won't be pursing it further since I am using other FIs with very good promos. All my money has been pulled out accept a minimum for cash withdrawal at a local ATM. Bill payments can be made at other FIs.

hmm, that's too bad, that would piss me off too.
In terms of AI bots, I mean the offers, its just computer programs these days doing their AI thing.
