That 3.25% rate for the RBC One-Year Cashable GIC is not publicly displayed.

I see that rate offered when I log into RBC Online Banking and navigate into my GIC account. See my previous post.

Thank you

Simplii has changed the rate for some tiers of their HISA. Must have happened sometime October 24 to today, November 1:

If your account balance is: Annual
rate
$0.00 to $50,000.00 0.35%
$50,000.01 to $100,000.00 0.75%
$100,000.01 to $500,000.00 0.80%
$500,000.01 to $1,000,000.00 1.45%
$1,000,000.01 and up 3.75%

Effective date of the new rates was Tuesday, October 29.

Regular interest, posted to the Simplii HISA October 30, was for September 26 to October 30, inclusive. Interest, calculated with that effective date for the new rates, is within ½¢ of what Simplii paid.

Seen on Simplii today

If your account balance is: Annual rate
$0.00 to $50,000.00 0.30%
$50,000.01 to $100,000.00 0.50%
$100,000.01 to $500,000.00 0.60%
$500,000.01 to $1,000,000.00 0.75%
$1,000,000.01 and up 1.50%

I suppose the regular rates are required for calculation of the promotional interest.

The over a million used to be good at 4.75%
I had it for virtually a year but it went down fast after that.

3.75% for a 4 month term at saven is much more satisfying

I love their 4 month term which is as close as it gets to the Old Hubert quarterly term.

It's virtually impossible to know the effective date when Simplii apply the rate change, even if you checked their website daily.

I never seen Simplii update their savings account rates before the rates are effective. If one checks daily, one can know the exact date the rates change.

I saw these previous rates as late as Saturday, March 15:

If your account balance is: Annual
rate
$0.00 to $50,000.00 0.30%
$50,000.01 to $100,000.00 0.50%
$100,000.01 to $500,000.00 0.60%
$500,000.01 to $1,000,000.00 0.80%
$1,000,000.01 and up 1.75%

I saw the current rates Wednesday, March 19. So, the current rates were effective either March 16, 17, 18, or 19.

Is the 1.50% on the entire balance or only on the amount over $1mm?

It's only on the portion over $1M. But is in any case hypothetical; one would have to be doolally…

Those are not rates for separate tiers of the account balance. The 1.5%, when applicable, would apply to the entire balance:

Interest is calculated by multiplying the [one applicable] daily interest rate (based on the [one] applicable annual rate) by the daily closing balance of your account and is paid into your account monthly.

I've confirmed that as part of verifying the regular and promotional interest paid for my last Simplii offer.

If one has over $1 million of short term money to place, then RBC Royal Bank's variable rate one-year Prime-Linked Cashable GIC is an attractive alternative. Cashable after 29 days with full accrued interest:

Term to
Maturity
$5,000 to
$249,999.99
$250,000 to
$999,999.99
$1,000,000 and
over
1 year P - 2.45%
2.50%
P - 2.25%
2.70%
P - 2.00%
2.95%

Just noticed today (Sept. 23, 2025) that Simplii had trimmed the rate for the top two levels:

If your account balance is: Annual
Rate
$0.00 to $50,000.00 0.30%
$50,000.01 to $100,000.00 0.50%
$100,000.01 to $500,000.00 0.60%
$500,000.01 to $1,000,000.00 0.70%
$1,000,000.01 and up 1.25%

Not sure that was done today (Tuesday), the day before (Monday), or over the weekend.

$100,000.01 to $500,000.00 0.60%
$500,000.01 to $1,000,000.00 0.70%

.
Those ⬆️ rates are so Low, it's no wonder they're not on The Chart.

To call them 'High' Interest Savings Accounts, is a Very Big Stretch.

I must be missing something ... what's the attraction❓

Their GIC rates are still somewhat attractive.

The regular rates on Simplii's HISA are not attractive by themselves. They are of interest to those who would like to check the interest paid on an offer, like the 4½% for 153 days (about 5 months) offer for new clients.

Not likely someone would be leaving more than $1 million in a Simplii HISA for 1% when there are many higher paying alternatives.

I forgot to mention that with Simplii I am comfortable purchasing a GIC beyond CDIC coverage, while I am not with any of the other smaller banks, other than Tangerine.
