I now have a HISA account, that I can't access yet, as I'm waiting for my debit card. Then I need to do a PIN transaction. Questions arise:

1 - What is average time to get the debit card?
2 - Do I just go to CIBC and put my PIN in with no activity or do I need to make a small deposit?
3 - Can I link Motive Financial to Simplii myself or can CIBC?
3a - Is it better to link TD to Simplii instead?

I'm just in chasing the 6.25% for 5 month HISA promo. Hoping it goes smoothly but the need for a debit card for an online bank seems archaic. And slow.

The debit card number is one's online banking login ID.

You can link to both the Motive account and TD account at Simplii. More than one external account can be linked at Simplii. There is a procedure to follow. You can do it yourself if you have the required paperwork for the external accounts to mail in. Card activation is also discussed in that thread.

I was able to receive my account# by calling Simplii. It is not 16 digit so doesn’t match the debit card# and is not usable as a login ID.

I cannot link Motive as the account is also a HISA and Simplii indicates a linked account must have debit or chequing functionality to be permitted. So I’m linking via a traditional chequing account.

I was able to be pre-authorized to complete a document defining my bank account details via secure link, but was also required to send a void cheque via letter mail. Not sure why it would still be required or why I couldn’t just include a photo in the secure link email reply.

So I await my debit card still - which I expect to never have a use for.

External account needs to accept direct deposits and pre-authorized debits to be linked at Simplii. The account doesn't need to be a chequing account or support a debit card.

EQ Bank's Personal Account is a savings account that does accept direct deposits and pre-authorized debits. It could be linked at Simplii if one somehow gets an account information form or the simulated void cheque stamped with a teller stamp by EQ Bank.

Simplii wants to examine the original void cheque or stamped form to ensure it is authentic. Too easy to scan a document, edit the account details, and upload the edited image.
