RetirEd reported elsewhere recently that free parking is not available in the Vancouver branch. I believe he also said he was told it was no longer available in Toronto.

Spouse had an appointment at the Toronto branch this morning. Oaken validated our parking stub, and parking was free. There were no refreshments this time however - attributed to covid.

Here's a good bank parking story.

RBC. The RBC parking lot was being filled by surrounding factory workers. So the RBC put in a gate and a parking tag machine. Your parking tag opened the gate only if you were there less than a predetermined amount of time. Over that time limit, you had to pay to get the gate raised.

Years ago, my mother loved to collect coins for the grandkids. The RBC had cardboard coin holders to help you complete your coin collection. So my mom went into the rbc bank, the teller had never heard of these cardboard coin holders and by the time the teller had found them, my mother's parking time limit had expired.

Not knowing this, my mom got into her car, drove to the gate, inserted her parking tag, the gate wouldn't open, so she paid to get out. (CEO 13 million dollars a year)

My advice to my mother. You should have put your car into park, right at the gate and then gone back into the bank to have your parking tag validated.

i'm in the parking mood, here's one of mine.

For those who don’t know… I admit it, I worked for GM.

A lifetime ago, I was sent from my working location to another GM facility, and GM lent me a car to get there. Now some say, I’m not right in the head because I always put zero value on a GM car lent to me. If there was a piece of anything on the road, I’m driving over it, because nothing made me laugh harder than hearing something BANG off the bottom of one of “their” cars.

So… I pull into this other GM parking lot. The lot closest to the front door, the lot with the GATE. I pushed the intercom button, “Hi, open the gate.”
“WHO ARE YOU?”
I responded with my name.
“Are you salary?”
“No.”
“You have to park in the back lot.”
“OKAY… could you please come out and tell the cars behind me to move out of the way?”
“I’ll open the gate. Drive in and turn around.”

The moment the fool opened the gate, I drove in and I parked. I walked right past the security desk, “If you want to tow the car that’s fine, it’s not mine, it’s yours.”
