"we are offering special short-term GIC rates of 4.00% for 120 day, 4.25% for 180 day and 4.50% for 270 day if you open a NEW ACCOUNT between April 13 and April 27, 2023."

"Effective Friday, April 28, 2023, the short-term GICs ( 120, 180 and 270 day) will revert to the rate posted on April 12, 2023."

Not sure where you saw that wording, but it doesn't show on the "spring special" rate page I came across: https://www.oaken.com/spring-special/
If it really is limited to new account openers than they are being deceptive, but that page does have wording "Eligible for both new purchases and renewals in non-registered GICs and RSPs", which would be odd if this was limited to those opening a new account.

It is common practice/lingo to refer to a new GIC or a new HISA as a new Account. The offer is valid for new and old money.

Hi NorthernRaven,

I received an email with the following text ... and now notice the inconsistency !
Thank you for pointing that out.

"To mark the start of spring, we are offering special short-term GIC rates of 4.00% for 120 day, 4.25% for 180 day and 4.50% for 270 day if you open a new account between April 13 and April 27, 2023.

All other Oaken rates will remain unchanged.
Effective Friday, April 28, 2023, the short-term GICs ( 120, 180 and 270 day) will revert to the rate posted on April 12, 2023.
For more information on how to make an investment, including our secure online form, please visit our website.
Special rates are subject to change at any time. Interest rate is per annum and paid at maturity. Eligible for both new purchases and renewals in non-registered GICs and RSPs. The minimum deposit is $1,000. All short-term GICs are non-redeemable prior to maturity."

I was greeted by the following pop-up window when logged to my Oaken account:

Yep, it's been there since Apr 13, or so, when NorthernRaven started this tread ...
