sf-smile $5. But keep in mind it is the good gesture and no one else does it! I have ten time more at Manulife and get stiffed with their incompetent systems along with 2x $150 annual fees......and no acknowledgment of appreciation, ever.sf-cry

No bottled water at MY CIBC branch, and I even have an account there.sf-frown

It doesn't increase my incentive either, but I am also already a client. I'll take any perk, even though I rarely patronize Tim's. In fact, I go to Tim's so rarely that almost everything I spend there is with gift cards that came free, one way or another.sf-smile

My life insurance agent sends birthday cards, which makes me feel uncomfortable.

kanaka - if you are not happy with Manulife, can you not move elsewhere? I certainly do not stay with "incompetent" suppliers.

The $5 from Oaken does not turn my crank at all and would not increase my incentive to be a client. I am already happy with their service and rates and that is all I expect.

By the way, I was in a Scotiabank branch recently and they have a coffee/tea table for clients. CIBC has a table with bottles of water for clients........

Yes I know....it was a very nice gesture.
Manulife is under the chopping block! Both of our accounts will be gone when I turn everything into cash and all GICs have matured.
Although I have iTRADE owned by BNS, they give me the heebie jeebies at the two branches close to me.

Brian, your guesses are both wrong. Maybe it's his company policy or something he was told in his training. I haven't had this guy too long, although the policy is older. I dumped the last agent because he had advertised himself as 'so-and-so, R.N." I thought this odd, as there are usually jobs available for male nurses, so I looked him up on the website of the nursing regulatory body and found that he'd been found guilty of professional fraud, misrepresenting his credentials, licence suspended for a while.sf-surprised Always check out those with whom you deal!

iTrade is horrible for fees. If you balance is below $50k they charge a crazy $24.99 fee! Questrade is one cent per trade ($4.99 min up to a max of $9.99 unless you have Questrade advantage which will charge you 1 cent min 6.95 max) buying ETFs are free though. Virtualbrokers is other good discount broker and also does 1 cent per trade . iTrade only treats you decent with account over $50k. If you want to deal with big banks BMO Investerline and TD Waterhouse is $9.99

ItsOP - it was not me who said that - see #7 above - it was kanaka who says he gets heebie jeebies from BNS and he does not like iTrade etc. etc.

I don't mind Itrade but dislike BNS. Itrade for me evolved from being with Trade Freedom at 9.99 per trade. Trade Freedom was owned by BNS and later merged to Itrade. Itrade is free for TFSA accounts and I use the free commission list for a few trades and 24.99 for other. I do very few trades so it is not a big enough of a deal to find another brokerage.
