https://www.motivefinancial.com/blog/start-saving-faster-with-motive-s-new-online-account-sign-up

"You can now open a new Savvy Savings™ or Motive® Cha-Ching Chequing Account™ within minutes thanks to recent enhancements to our online application. Easy, safe, and secure, we’re excited to offer an even better overall experience to help save you time, so you can get to saving.

"Open a new Motive Chequing or savings account right here within minutes."

Apparently, in place since July 23, 2020. Has anyone tried this? Is it actually quick and easy, and "within minutes"?

Will noone new volunteer as a sacrifice to this new process? 😀

(I too am interested in hearing about it, since it's a good sign of what things may be like in the future)

Agreed! sf-laugh

Perhaps many who are active on this site already have a Motive account?

But for those who don't (dangles carrot), they're at 1.75% for Savvy Savings and TFSA (as of Aug 18/20). See the August "Savers Roundup" article [can someone edit this and hypertext link to same?] for why 1.75% is currently "not terrible" (as I like to say). Better than .05% or .20%.

I'd prefer they modernize the external account linking procedure to make it fully digitized. I've faxed docs to them from work in the past, but that's not possible for me during Covid. They accept emailed forms but email isn't secure, so I prefer to avoid that. That leaves me with Canada Post. In 2020.

They're not going to invest in changing anything in MemberDirect as it is going away. Wouldn't surprise me if whatever it is replaced with had a much better system all around - in particular if it is also a Temenos product as expected, since that would mean tight integration between what we use and the core banking.

Does that mean they'll update the linking procedure in this century? (Whenever they adopt a new system?)

MemberDirect will sunset in 2021 if I recall. Central1 isn't going to keep it going most likely, so everyone has a decision to make - continue with Central1 under their new system Forge, or use something else. So far CWB is adopting products from Temenos. That application process is a Temenos product (technically a company Temenos acquired a few years ago). As well the new website is not using the Forge platform from Central1 either. It's a safe bet based on that and some press releases that they'll adopt Temenos for mobile/online banking - with would likely bring with it a different account linking procedure/process. We shall see.

I was the guinea pig. Just attempted to get a savvy savings account opened, I set my wife up here several years ago. Total time it took for me was 8 minutes. At the 8 minute mark I received an email saying I need to phone or email them to finish account setup. I will not bother doing this. My information is clear and has many years of credit history, etc. Deal with EQ, Tangerine, Royal, Scotia, Motus, etc.

They have a section where you can provide a scan of your driver's licence so they will automatically fill in sections...it failed for me 2 times. They then said they were having issues with some of my information so I needed to do the other bank login thing. After all of this I must still contact them. Big fail and waste of time for me.

Anyone else have better luck please post.

Quick followup: I decided to call but of course they are closed, it is 6:36PM here in Ontario.

Second followup: without taking any action myself I received an email today saying they had found the issue with my application and it was fixed. So I give them credit for finishing this without taking any of my time and I now am accepted and have bank access. You still must mail in a signature card.

In past, anything that they asked be sent by mail (like the signature card), I was able to scan to PDF and email to them -- they accepted that in lieu of physical mail.

How did that work out? Were you able to just scan the signature card and email?

Worked fine for me. They emailed me the signature form, I printed it, signed it, scanned it to PDF, emailed it back. Pretty easy.

Yes, I understood that from what you said earlier.
I was looking for kwilson's corroborating experience, if any.
