Hi,

I never received anything. Did you guys just get the offer via email? I even checked my 'Offers' when logged into Meridian and nothing.

Are there fees for all Meridian Chequing Accounts?

Thanks,
TD

Interesting!
I currently have the "Maximizer" checking account-- which has no fees at all(for a senior)
When I looked at the open new accounts page, I saw 6 different options-- none of which as the Maximizer!
Maybe they don't offer that anymore?

Maximizer Chequing no longer exists - for seniors it has been "minimized" to the Senior Everyday Chequing Acct which has a monthly fee of $3 but if you keep a minimum monthly balance of $2000, there is no $3 monthly fee. No interest either of course.
There are better alternatives with other FIs. Both Simplii and Tangerine offer free chequing accounts - no monthly charges or fees for regular banking eg transfers, ATM, interac e-transfer. To me, Meridian operates like an old style FI.

Thanks for the update on Maximizer.
Wasn't aware of that
I just checked my account again-- there never have been any fees applied
yet, I guess
Maybe I have been grandfathered

Opened checking acc today.Teller had never heard of this promo.Had to go & ask a financial advisor, nice lady who opened my original 4.8% promo. She had just been updated on this promo last Fri.I was the 1st person that signed up for the promo at this branch.Opened up senior checking acc. with 3$ a month basic acc fee.My 4.8% promo is extended to the middle of Jan. on my HISA. The 2 free checks was explained to me.I thought I would receive 2 checks on the account, but I would have purchase a book of checks separately & the 1st two would be processed free of charge. Great 4.8% rate for 8 months.

Hi,

Should I just contact Meridian about this promo 4 months extension if you open a Chequing Account as I haven't received anything from them via email or any Offers when when I log in?

Kind regards,
TD

Never hurts to talk to someone, ask why you weren't targeted.Worst thing they can do is say no.When I went in to open the checking account it sounded like I was targeted for this promo.Luck of the draw just like Tangerine promos.

My wife's promo ends in a couple of weeks and she / we were actually contacted by a Meridian Financial Planner, who just wanted to lay out options, like they do.

First thing we asked was about getting an extension, as mentioned here.
Response was that it was for those who didn't currently have a checking Account. We have a Maximizer [jointly]; he went on to say it was a targeted thing, which we would either see upon login, or get an email.
So it's a hard NO for us; therefore, we are now looking for alternatives without locking in.

semi-retired mentions Tangerine. I see there's a 4.50% for 5 months on their website, for NEW clients. Any obvious red flags / negatives, with Tang, that those familiar are able to share ? We would likely be pulling funds from our TD checking acct. ... can we link to it seamlessly directly with Tang, or must we use Flinks, or whatever that 3rd party is? Tried it once, linking to EQ Bank. which apparently set off alarms at TD Security, who called me immediately advising we were opening ourselves up to security breaches. so never again. thanks for any info on Tang.

Tangerine is good for their promos,as long as you don't mind playing their games.Open up a savings account & then link your TD account from there.I think you are allowed 3 different FI links from Tang.Read all the comments about how the promos work on this website. You basically have to pull your funds out just before your promo ends & hope you get contacted for a new promo or an extension of your existing promo.Tang base rates stink.Be prepared for long waits if you phone customer service.Once set up this system works great for catching Tang promos.Presently I have very little in Tang, after my last promo ended. I opened the Meridian 4 month HISA promo at 4.8% middle of May,just received the 4 month extension for opening the checking acc so I'm good to middle of Jan.

Fwiw:
Given the very low limits on me to me transfers out of Meridian, I asked whether there was a limit if I called in instead
The answer given was: no, limit if I call in
So, that simplifies getting the funds out when this promo expires

I asked the same question, got the same answer - no limits. Did not try it yet.
Delay supposed to be 3 days for transfer out.

Yes, the delay is another annoyance with Meridian
Makes it harder to keep track of exactly where one is
(Good to know we got the same answer!!!)sf-smile

Why not move your funds with a cheque ?

Yes, that would be the other option
Funds would be on hold, of course--although granted, that is not of any great import if the funds are meant for saving, anyway

Hi,

I just called Meridian to inquire about this extension and they said you have to be targeted or rather receive a targeted email to qualify. The CSR said that I should receive an email in September at the latest to see if I qualify as my 4.80% promotional interest rate ends on Saturday October 11, 2025.

Kind regards,
TD

Thank you for data point Top Dogg. Out of curiosity, did they give you any indication whom they target with their emails: customers old/recent; with more deposits/less deposits; residents of the province/out of province?
Not that it matter ... My 4 months should expire about Sept. 20th. I received nothing so far. Time to figure next step.

Hi,

They gave me no indication of who they target. The CSR just said I should receive an email by the latest in September if I qualify. I'm in the same boat as you, always gotta plan/plot ahead for the next best rate.

Thanks,
TD
