Hi,I'm looking at opening a Meridian HISA once my promotional offer with Manulife (Advantage Account) ends next week on Thursday June 19, 2025. I just had some questions regarding Meridian's HISA. Is the promotional interest rate still at 4.80% for months? Are there any fees associated with the HISA?
I've never signed up for any Meridian products in the past so any feedback would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
TD
The last date to signup is tomorrow June 13, it was originally June 30. The 4.8% rate is comprised of base and promotional interest. Movements by the BoC can impact the base rate and therefore the total rate of interest. Meridian is much better these days with changes to the base rate as they seem to be much more gradual. My suggestion, if possible, is to initiate all transfers via EFT from an external bank, there's no fee. I haven't experienced any fees with the several Meridian promos over the years, then again, I've only used it as a savings account.

It says on the site that you have from April 14, 2025 to June 30th, 2025 to sign up. Are you sure that the last day to sign up is tomorrow (Friday June 30, 2025)? If so, I guess I will have to sign up tomorrow. Also, are there any Interac E-Transfer fees?
Thanks again,
TD

Are you sure the last day is tomorrow. The terms and conditions still say June 30th 2025 is the last day. I have noticed that they are not really advertising the promotional 4.80% rate on there website anymore. I have put a link to the promo T&C below.

Hi TD,I and my spouse have recently opened Advantage accounts at Meridian, to take advantage of the 4.80% rate. As of today, the rate is still 4.80% (and it is supposed to stay the same for 4 months after opening the account).
Yes, we saw in the past FIs advertising a rate for a certain amount of time, just to reduce it much earlyer... but not at Meridian, so keeping fingers crossed.
I am not aware of fees that would affect us, but certainly there must be some fees. Best is to read the offer: https://www.meridiancu.ca/personal/chequing-and-savings-accounts/savings-accounts/earn-more-with-a-high-interest-savings-account
Thanks for the info rk. Very much appreciated.

JohnnyCash,
I just called them and you're correct, the 4.80% promotional offer ends on Friday June 13, 2025 (Friday the 13th). The CSR said they are stopping the promotion early because of the heavy volume of signups.
The CSR also said that with the High Interest Savings/Online Advantage Accounts it's $1.50 per Interac E-Transfer. So that kind of sucks since I do several Interac E-Transfers per month.
Thanks,
TD

For those that signed up, what does it show as the interest rate on the information of the account? Mine only shows 0.85%. Does anyone show the 4.8%? If not, how do you know you are getting the promo rate?
I had to call customer service again but I was able to get into my account today. Yes it shows 4.80% for my Online Advantage Savings Account.

It is showing 4.80% for me. I believe that the offer is no longer available. I do not know when they stopped it, but is it possible that you opened the account after?

$1.50 per Interac E-Transfer is expensive. Is there a fee for E-transfer deposit?

No, it would be unheard of for a financial institution to charge a client for depositing money, because they want it for their own use and benefit. There have been rare exception though, heard in certain parts of the world where they experienced negative interest rates, you had to pay them to keep your money.

If I'm not mistaken seniors have their $1.50 per Interac E-Transfer rebated at the end of the month. But the caveat is you must use their chequing account to initiate the E-Transfer, at least that's how it works for me.
Yes, that was my understanding as well-- although I don't think I have ever actually used it there, so can't confirm from my own experience

I was able to link of my Manulife Advantage Account today with my Meridian Online Advantage Savings account. So I'll be good to go come Thursday June 19th when my promotional interest rate of 4.60% expires with Manulife.
I'll just have to stay away from the Interac e-Transfers since it's $1.50 a pop (steep) to do one with Meridian but for 4.80% for 4 months, I think I'll be able to manage and get around that 🙂
Thanks again,
TD
