Did the CRA not uncover this problem when they test drove the software?

I believe CRA only certify the efiling aspects of the software, not the mechanism nor acuracy of how numbers flow thru within the software etc ?

That's correct: CRA's NETFILE certification doesn't test everything.

People have found differences in the return NETFILE-certified tax software generates for the same input. I've run into actual software bugs.

CRA obviously does not need to verify the parts of the return that aren't included in the NETFILE upload either.

It is also not a software bug if an incorrect return is NETFILE'd because taxpayer tells the software the children are supported by only one of the parents and the software uses the income of that parent only as the family income for calculating the child care tax credits.

Back to paper filing for a moment (sorry, this site makes it impossible to find out how to start a new thread): Got letter from CRA today outlining the deal on paper filing, link below is the page dedicated to paper filers.

Note you can call an automated line to order paper forms, schedules, etc, will have to provide SIN, hopefully no need to wait for a person.

If you do it yourself online appears you can order up to 9 copies of anything.

I'm assuming this kicks off Jan 20 too. The letter concludes by saying "The CRA will continue to support you if you choose to file on paper". I'm taking that as a lifetime guarantee.

To start a new thread in a forum, navigate up one level (up from within a thread) to the forum level and use the Add Topic button:

CRA will continue to support the filing of full paper T1 General returns. CRA has to because there is a significant number of things in a return that NETFILE cannot handle.

CRA can request the full paper T1 General return to handle some disputes. The NETFILE upload does not have the full contents of the paper T1 General return.

Thank you very much, Norman1, I only need to know very infrequently so I never remember, this time I've written down the procedure. In your screen shot, though, wouldn't the new topic still fall under Income Tax Filing? The new topic might have nothing to do with income tax filing?

(General question to anyone: Why is the process so obscure, who could ever figure out how to do this? Is there a reason it can't be a bit more obvious how to start a new thread?)

Ditto for moi, Bill!
I believe I actually figured it out, once or twice in the past, but would always completely forget the next time.
It does seem like it could be a tad more transparent-- but I find that to be true for so many websites. Stuff I think should be obvious aint't-- at least not for me

Yes, the new topic would be under the "Income Tax Filing" forum.

If one wishes the new topic to be under a different forum, then one would first click on the Forum item in the navigation bar at the top of the page to see all the forums:

One would navigate into the desired forum and use the "Add Topic" button in that forum.
