I just called Ideal Savings regarding information with respect to client retention and transferring out of funds.

I was met with a recording telling me to direct all questions to them via email (I'm not sure that the email is a secure email) OR to leave a voice mail - further the recording said that all telephone calls will be returned within 2 business days.

So much for customer service.

EDIT: Ideal returned my call 3 hours after I left a message.

SO, up until TODAY, I've had no concerns or problems with my HISA deposit at Ideal. BUT, after not getting a live CSR today, I'm second thinking why I'm at this FI, particularly since moving funds can be complicated and delayed.

From their website

Managing Your Account(s)

Can I withdraw funds?

If you would like to withdraw funds from your Ideal Savings account you may do so with an automatic funds transfer, Interac e-Transfer® or contact us to send you an official cheque by mail.

Can I link my Ideal Savings account to an account at another financial institution through online banking?

Unfortunately, it is not possible at this point to link two accounts from different financial institutions through our online banking and you will not be able to see the link. It is a manual process that we do at our end.

If you would like to transfer funds from Ideal Savings please complete the Automated Funds Transfer-Out Form and if you would like to transfer into Ideal Savings please complete the Automated Funds Transfer-In Form; then email it us to process the first transfer only. The first transfer will be scheduled within five business days. For further transfers, simply email us the amount, date of transfer (next business day is the earliest) and frequency.

You can link your Ideal account at another bank and pull money from there without having to call Ideal. (If that is an option for you)

Yes, I have successfully pulled money from Ideal using each of Hubert, EQ, and Tangerine. No problems.

Does anyone know what the push/pull transfer limits are for online transfers?

On the topic of customer service, on Dec 20 I wrote to their email address info@idealsavings.ca with the following inquiry:

I am interested in your 2.5% HISA promotion, but have concerns about making deposit transactions via email. Do you have a secure email system rather than conventional unsecured email?

...to which I never received a response.

I just tried phoning Ideal Savings and noted that there is still an answering machine with message that was reported by the previous posters on this thread (e.g. leave a message and we will call you back?)

I am thinking of opening a savings account here, but am wondering if anyone has ever managed to get someone on the phone (e.g. when dialling//not as call back) -- or if this is still the "technical issue" mentioned in the post above? It seems like a strange practice for a business of its kind...? I would hope to be able to speak to someone if I decided to put my money there, you know?

I haven't had cause to speak to them on the phone, but I've had a few email exchanges with staff members where the conversation went back and forth almost as fast as an online chat session. YMMV but maybe you could try emailing them instead of calling and see if that works good enough for you.

FWIW it's my understanding that they're working on system upgrades that will eliminate a lot of the old school transfer procedures that some people dislike. Like many others here, in the meantime I've driven around the transfer bottleneck by adding Ideal links to my EQ and Simplii accounts so that I can pull funds out of Ideal any time I want without asking anybody squat.

The real problem with emailing Ideal Savings is that it's not a secure environment therefore you would still need to talk to them live, to withdraw funds or transfer to other CUs that don't allow push/pull or transfer amounts greater than the daily Interac Transfer.
