Savings /TFSA rate increase to 2.76%*

* All accounts with the guaranteed 2.5% rate will now earn this new higher rate. No action is necessary to receive the 2.76% rate and should rates fall prior to December 31, 2018, the previously guaranteed 2.5% rate will still apply.

Ideal's email about this rate increase also makes this statement:

"Please note, we cannot link your Ideal Savings account to an account at another financial institution through online banking."

It may be true that one cannot link from Ideal to outside accounts, but as has been discussed here previously, it is possible to link from outside accounts to Ideal! I have done so successfully from Tangerine and Hubert and EQ, and use these institutions to push/pull funds to/from Ideal. Their rate of 2.76% is very attractive indeed, and Manitoba deposit insurance covers all deposits, not just limited to 100K.

I had no idea they have such a good rate for regular saving account (not GICs). Now everything is moved from Oaken to Meridian but will move to IdealSavings if their rate stay 2.5%.

Their Rates page gives 2.76% as a regular rate at this time, with no conditions.

Tangerine is phoning selected clients and offering 3% on savings accounts for 180 days. If you do call them, first try for 3%, not 2.76%.
