My concern is providing personal data to some system somewhere in the cloud.
I prefer software on my computer.

I agree...program on "MY" computer and files on "MY" computer But last year when I did netfile somehow it went through Intuit (TurboTax) which I did not care for. I prefer to use the software, create a nettle, then use the CRA site to upload the netfile.

Any one use Studio Tax for iMac?

We are way off topic again, but I need to vent. I just spent a frustrating evening with Turbo Tax. Have used it for years without issue, but tonight it was full of bugs including repeatedly changing T slip amounts entered and wanting to load my mother's data from CRA onto my return! Am tired of how slow my PC is...so what software do people use on Mac?

:) :) I just bought a used iMac. Moved all my files from my PITA Windows 10 laptop. Will have to keep the laptop as I had already purchased turbo tax for PC and once done....will sell. I hope I don't run into any problems. I have never tried auto fill and won't try this year. I put a free version of Studio Tax on my iMac and will do taxes again on it and compare end results to Turbo Tax. The Turbo Tax for Mac is an online version...and I won't be buying. So based on my experiment I will decide to keep one of two PCs or if works good on iMac....will sell both PCs. I have totally lost confidence in Windows and the temperamental ways it works along with those long unexplained waits. I see others here use Studio Tax and if it is ok, I don't have a problem donating.

For iMac download here http://www.studiotax.com/en/?page=11

Thanks, it looks like a good option, but living in beautiful/backward QC, Studio tax, Simple tax and many others are not set up to do QC returns. Here is an older article from 2015 that summarizes what is available, including downloadable, installable ad web based applications:

Ah... but will they do her taxes?

Alternatively, the season is right for an annual visit to a sugar shack, where every course is served with maple syrup. Perhaps Quebecois should go there and enjoy themselves, after which they will be on such a sugar high that they'll be able to do their taxes manually in 10 minutes flat!

Studiotax is free software you download to your computer hence all data is only on your computer. It also has the autofill function if you want to use it, but because of the time it takes CRA to post T5's I do not use it.

Few days ago, I still not yet receive the T5 slip, I wonder the slip get loss on mail delivery, then I try to call them, the Hubert staff is very helpful, I suggest would they send the T5 slip to my email on their file, she said Ok, and I got my T5 by email just a few minutes.
She even mentioned the T5 by the email is encrypted with the password.

I got my T5 from Hubert in the mail a couple of weeks ago.

Looks like Hubert had a problem last month and not all of their T5 slips got printed and mailed.sf-frown

Mine arrived in the mail today with a letter of explanation.

Just got mine today too. Kind of a "it won't happen again" letter explanation/apology. They also emailed it to me.

I got it too... But was surprised regarding interest on 1y GIC which becomes redeemable in 2 weeks???? But then I figured out it is 1y GIC but interest is paid quarterly so that is why I got a T5... More taxes to pay :(

As 'mw' is worried somebody using his/her SIN; I started receiving few years ago cell bill for some Chinese name, my address. It went for few months... The it stopped; then Rogers started bugging me to pay bill; then collection agency started phoning; until I send them a letter that I contacted police and to get off my back or I am going to sue them for harassment. Finally it stopped.
So no, you do not need stolen SIN to commit a fraud. Just dishonest employee...

In cases like that, I put a stroke through the address, write "Return to Sender (no-one named _______ lives here)" on the front, and drop the item in a Canada Post street letter box. No postage needed.

That way, the sender gets the item back and knows something is up.

A Capital One credit card showed up in my mail that way. I could feel the card through the envelope. My address but with the name of a woman I never heard of. Dropped it in a street letter box after marking the front of the envelope.
