Well, 2 business weeks and 2 days and Hubert has still not received my initial cheque, which was sent from Ontario. So, I am in limbo trying to set up my account and it is a bit frustrating.

"If you post it, it will come!" I finally received an e-mail from Hubert that my account has been set up. I am excited to get started. Crazy that the cheque took 12 business days to arrive. I am excited to begin. Here is the e-mail I received today.

Thank you for choosing to open an account with Hubert Financial. Happy savings are just around the corner! Now that you've activated your membership, we wanted to answer a couple common questions that you might have about your new account:

Transferring funds to and from your Hubert account:

Transferring funds to and from your Hubert account is as easy as one, two, three.

1. When you made your initial deposit, we had all the information we needed to verify your account with your other financial institution. Once your cheque clears, this account will be set up so you can complete transfers online through our internet banking service.

2. To initiate a transfer (doesn't matter if it's to or from a Hubert account), all you need to do is sign into Hubert Online and click on the "transfer funds in" or "transfer funds out" tab in the left hand menu.

3. You can also add accounts with other financial institutions that you can then use to transfer funds to and from Hubert. Again, just sign into Hubert Online and click on the "manager transfer accounts" tab in the left hand menu.

Accessing your Hubert accounts:

The best way to access your Hubert account is through Hubert Online, our internet banking service. When you completed your account application, you were asked to select a password for Hubert Online. If you do not remember your password, please use the secure chat on our website or give us a call to have this password reset.

We hope that answers some of the initial questions that you might have about your new account. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can be reached by phone 1-855-4HUBERT (1-855-448-2378) or by email at hubert@happysavings.ca.

Remember! With Hubert, every penny of your deposits are 100% guaranteed without limit by the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba regardless of where you live in Canada. As a member you can rest easy knowing that no matter what happens in the economy, your investments are safe and secure with Hubert Financial.

Hi Jenna,

Glad to hear your cheque made it.. I am also in Ontario and was impressed with the speed of Canada Post when I sent my cheque.. I am guessing yours was lost in the corner somewhere..

I wonder if any1 will attempt to beat Hubert's rate anytime soon.. Just to confirm it was free for me to transfer from TD to Hubert initiating the transfer from Hubert's end..

Thanks for confirming that the $2.50 is no longer in practise. I am not sure if anyone will go up against Hubert--and if they do, if Hubert will protect their position. No one is locked in at Hubert, so it would be easy to go elsewhere if they stop being competetive.

I was very surprised that I was able to set up a transfer directly from ING Direct to Hubert, although I don't have a chequing account with them. All you need are the transit #, financial institution # and your account #. The set up time seems to be 3-5 days per new account added.

What I noticed to be lacking on Hubert's website were accounts clearly labelled as RSPs. I did see accounts designated as Tax-free Savings Accounts (TFSAs). I will have to ask them about it.

I did see a form to designate a beneficiary for certain Hubert accounts, in the event of death, but just like ING Direct, they were not for the regular savings account (I believe).

I have to say, this CU has a great operation.

The online sign up was painless and they had my online account working within minutes of getting my cheque. Total timeline 5 days from sign up to cheque cashed and account opened.

The electronic transfer works well and fast. A transaction from Outlook and RBC, both took 1 day.

So far I'm impressed.

Do they send your user name and password by canada post or they e-mail that to you? I sent my cheque on the 13th and I have noticed that they cashed my cheque on the 15th of July. So far no confirmation by e-mail.

Monju, you set your own password at the time you do the online Hubert application. They e-mail you your account number (used as a user id). If you forget your password, initiate an online chat session and they will help you.

In order to activate your account, you will have to verify a small amount of money that Hubert has transferred into the account you wish to have linked. If you have multiple accounts that you linked to Hubert, then you will have to verify the amount found in each account. Then you are ready to transact!

Hi any idea how long before the welcome package shows up? My account was opened & first cheque deposited 2 weeks ago. Still no welcome package yet. :(

Thanks!

It's not really a "welcome package" in the traditional sense, a la Ally, Achieva, Outlook, etc. but rather a "thanks for your business" package. I received mine last week I believe and it contained a nice letter, fridge magnet and mousepad. :)

Cheers,
Doug

P.S. I should be on their payroll. I think I've probably successfully referred between $250,000 and $500,000 in deposits between real life friends and people on these boards. ;)

We've just put together the 'thank you' packages and are sending out small batches each day. The next packages will continue to be mailed over the next few weeks. Everyone should get one soon!

hi everyone! I just received my fridge magnet and mouse pad as well :)

Thanks so much for providing these forums. I have discovered AcceleRate, and more recently Hubert here on this site. At present I use my AcceleRate account as a collector for any new cash throughout the month, and keep the bulk of it at Hubert.

Hubert is ideal for savers/investors such as myself due to it's lack of service charges for transferring funds. I can rebalance, moving money into and out of equity as often as I want without getting dinged, all the while getting the best (to my current knowledge) daily interest rate in Canada.

I also received the magnet and mousepad. Cute idea, but no computer in our house for over a decade has had a mouse (not complaining).

I'm kind of stumped about the Hubert beneficiary form, as no relative is allowed to sign. Who do I get to sign then? A friend, a doctor, etc? I find my personal finances to be private in respect to my investments and holdings.

Excuse the stupid question, this is my first post. I'm an Ontario resident, this is a Manitoba credit union. How do they verify identity? Usually, when opening a new financial account, I have to go down and show lots of personal ID: driver's license, passport, etc. How is this done online?

Hi aristotle,

I am also from Ontario.. To open an account go through the process online.. You will then have to mail a cheque payable to Hubert Financial.. I found the process very easy it took me 5 minutes and I was sending out a cheque.. I believe its payable to yourself at hubert I am not 100%.. Check out the FAQ on their site.. See ya..

Good question. I am from BC and have opened an account in both Accelerate and Outlook. I dont believe I gave them any ID or copies of ID...yet for my TradeFreedom account I had to send them a copy of my DL
