A while ago, I set up a direct deposit with PCF for some bonus which I have forgotten. I regularly transfer to other instituitions, so I really have no need to keep dealing with them. Is there anyone offering, or likely to offer, a bonus for switching direct deposit?

Tangerine has sometimes offered this.
You can always ask whichever FI you are interested in. The worst they can say is "no".

Meridian has a couple promotions. These, to me, seem to favor new customers over existing, and so I think yours is the correct approach, 2of3: flit around like a bee from flower to flower.

I remember someone mentioned here before for us to double check the beneficiary designation in hubert. Here is the reply from hubert via email. I applaud Hubert with the email confirmation:

I haven't had a problem with Hubert re: beneficiary and don't remember one being reported - although perhaps I have forgotten something. The form is on their website, you can down load it and send it in. I did have an issue with Peoples Trust though.
