Hi.

https://www.tangerine.ca/en/products/investing/rsps/rsp-investment-fund/index.html

If you are referring to their investment fund. They are sold in units, see the link above

no sorry, i meant their GIC minimums. I presume the GIC minimum would be 500 but some are 1000 i believe. In this case i am looking for a low minimum, hopeful that can be held directly by a child.

There's a chart of minimum amounts for gics. So for tangerine, one dollar would do.

Sorry but why even considering their GICs when there are many others with higher rates? Just asking as I recently moved to Oaken for 3 GICs all higher than what Tangerine offers.

I was considering opening a children's account there and investing the cash in a GIC. I was going to divert the trudeaubucks to avoid attribution directly to the account to make this plan work. Tangerine was the only virtual bank that would offer a children's account that i know of. That being said I haven't done it yet and I see Oaken does allow for in trust holding, but i dont think that is a clean as having it in their name and I would likely get slammed with the tax.

Pipersierra, you may want to check with CRA to make sure that'll work re attribution. Aren't the child benefits payable from gov't to parent, notwithstanding the fact they may be deposited to a child's account? Plus I think from CRA's point of view if parent can still get their hands on it, can withdraw money from an account, it's still attributed to parent even though the account might be in a minor child's name. Of course whether or not CRA ever flags this for further scrutiny is another matter..........
