my being cynical at all things banking, I just wonder how long after investing in a 5 yr gic will the 3.25 rate drop to 1.0?

GIC stands for Guaranteed Investment Certificate, including guaranteed rate. So once you buy the GIC at 3.25%, you have locked in the rate for the entire term. Why would you care that the rate goes down to 1%?
