This is a closed bond credit union for Ontario Provincial Police.

From their FAQ:
"Membership is open to OPP officers, civilian members of the OPPA and the immediate family members of individuals who meet these criteria."

Sorry, how?

If you're referring to that that former Toronto Star Employees Credit Union (now Luminus Financial Credit Union), that was a former closed bond credit union. It is not that any longer; thus, the comparison is irrelevant. Likewise, Commtech Credit Union, despite it having a focus on Commtech employees, is a notionally open bond credit union following its changes to its articles of association. So, it, too, is an erroneous comparable.

Cheers,
Doug

To add to what I said at post # 4, the membership requirements are as follows:

  • Be an OPP officer
  • Be a civilian member of the OPP or OPPA
  • Be an immediate family member of someone who meets the above criteria

It's not even clear retired OPP officers are eligible to remain members. I suspect they probably can, but, nonetheless, "immediate family member" typically means either (a) a spouse or (b) a child. Thus, this officer is irrelevant to substantially of the members of this forum and, in turn, as evidenced by my and Loonie's comments, a cruddy thread. sf-cool

Let's stick with sharing GIC offers to open bond credit unions and banks, okay?

Cheers,
Doug

Tell that to the members who benefited from the juicy rate offered by Energy a closed bond who made exceptions for them.

Doug please dont deter people. We all want the best deals posted no matter who sometimes there r exceptions made. Closed bond members are welcome here.

+1 to that. Yes, exceptions are made, such as Omnia Direct accepting non-Ontario members despite Windsor Family Credit Union's Ontario residency requirement. However, in this case, unless you're an active duty OPP officer or a spouse or child of the same, you won't be getting into this credit union. 😉

Doug

I believe we should continue to post good offers from closed bond CUs.
While some people may be willing to lie about their affiliation, and I don't support that, it's also true that some forum members could legitimately qualify. Why stand in their way?
Good promo offers were posted not long ago from Energy CU and Ontario Educational CU. Both are closed bond but their potential membership is nonetheless quite large. It could, and almost certainly does, include some forum members.
And, for all we know, there may be 100 OPP officers on this forum.

That said, it would be most helpful if someone who posts such an offer would give us the essential details of any restrictions including closed bonds, single province only, must join in person, deadlines, deposit minimums, etc.
Even so, a post that merely names the offer is useful.

I don't support lying in order to join an organization for which you are not qualified.

In this case it would be especially foolhardy.
Impersonating a police officer is an offense. Need I say more?

Accept it They don't want you. It's their right.

Good answer, Loonie. It reminds me of this post, in case you hadn't seen that. sf-cool
