I see Ratesupermarket is advertising a 5yr GIC with Tangerine Bank at 3%. I called Tangerine and they say they are not offering that rate on any GIC. However Ratesupermarket people say they are even after telling them about my conversation with Tangerine representative.

Has anyone gotten an extra quarter point bump up on a 5yr Tangerine gic in the past?

From what I can see, right now the best five year that ratesupermarket is advertising is Oaken at 2.85%.

Looks like their non-registered rates for Tangerine GIC's are messed up:

2.50% 1 year
2.60% 2 year
2.70% 3 year
2.75% 4 year
3.00% 5 year

For 4 year GIC's, there's a messed up non-registered rate of 3.05% for Alterna Bank! Current rate is 1.95%, from both Alterna Bank's site and CANNEX.

Whenever I see a rate online that seems too good to be true I double and triple check it. One major problem is that there are a lot of "stale" website postings online that are just outdated and never removed. Always phone the source of the rate for ultimate confirmation.
