Hopefully the MBNA Smart Cash card doesn't get gutted.

Less competition for Credit cards companies. Citi Mastercard is now part of CIBC and Mbna is going to be the part of TD. Is it good for the consumer? Well! I do not think so!!

I don't expect them to end their retailer or affinity partnerships, but I could see them ending less popular MBNA credit cards and migrating them to the growing ones (i.e., closing down the Platinum Plus product and migrating to Smart Cash or ending the WorldPoints program, etc.). Also, TD did state on the call that they intend to adopt the TD model of stricter risk management and credit adjudication policies for new credit card originations post-integration. Further, they also expect MBNA's credit card receivables to fall by $2.5 billion from $8.5 billion post-close as a result of TD winding down very attractive promotional "teaser" interest rate offers to consumers.

Cheers,
Doug

MBNA has had problems since November with rewards cheques. These cheques are to be printed Jan. 19 according to their customer service reps.
