There seem to be a lot of forum members who shop at Costco, so I thought you might be interested in how their generous free samples are believed to be affecting your wallet.

One has really not seen free sampling done at a Costco till one has been in the Naples, FL Costco around 12:30 PM on a Saturday in November. The old folks line up 30 and 40 deep waiting for the next 15 samples to come out of the oven.

The article clearly shows that there is a risk to the consumer to increase "impulse" purchases. Unfortunately for Costco we are in the "one quarter" group as we tend to stay away from processed food,

Another shopping tip for Costco......look for items with the price ending in .95 and .97. These items are marked down and the only indication is the ending digits. But only buy if you really need....!

What is it about Florida? (Haven't been there since 1963.) I read an article a few years ago about a woman in south Florida somewhere who said she volunteered for everything under the sun so that she could get the free food at the events that these organizations held. She screened her volunteer opportunities for the likelihood of getting free meals and the quality thereof. She said that because it was a high tourist area, there were tons of events that she could volunteer for!
She seemed quite "professional" about this.
Adds a whole new dimension to those signs that read "will work for food."

When I was young and single I dated a travel agent in Toronto. She invited me to cocktail parties put on by travel suppliers where one had to sit through a 15 - 30 minute presentation and then there was an open bar and open buffet.

We did a little research and found one could "eat out" Monday through Thursday for most of the year.
