Do any others have difficulty linking their TD checking account to other institutions for monetary transfers or for pre-approved debits? So far I've experienced difficulties linking it to my NBDB account and just gave up trying to link it to Hydro as they continued to reject payment. TD says the problem is not on their side yet all the other institutions know of the difficulty with TD.

Double check the transit number, institution number, and account number.

All TD Canada Trust accounts are institution number 004.

The transit number can be tricky. A TD Canada Trust branch can end up with accounts of different transit numbers than the branch's transit number after smaller branches in the area are consolidated with it. For example, TD branch #18 has these four possible transit numbers:

00182-004 Guelph Main, 34 Wyndham Street, Guelph, ON N1H 4E5
03052-004 Guelph Mcdonnell, 34 Wyndham Street, Guelph, ON N1H 4E5 (Sub to 00182)
24102-004 Wyndham & Cork, 34 Wyndham St, Guelph, ON N1H 4E5 (Sub to 00182)
24962-004 Guelph Wyndham, 34 Wyndham St., P O Box 576, Guelph, ON N1H 4E5 (Sub to 00182)

I run my external bank accounts through TD and have not had a problem. However, I do utility payments elsewhere.

I've got more than 6 monthly debit payments with TD, including utility payments, and have never had a problem.

Would it be possible to get the three-digit Return Reason Code for the failed transactions, from Hydro and National Bank Direct Brokerage?

A list of the codes is on page 6 of CPA Standard 007. For example, 902 (Account not found) and 907 (No Debit Allowed).
