Same rationale, different credit unions...the credit union accelerated mergers parade continues:

Links:

* Grand Forks & District and Gulf & Fraser Fishermen's merger press release (GFDCU merger vote results | information sessions press release)

* East Kootenay Community Credit Union and Heritage Savings Credit Union, the latter in Dean's neck of the woods, merged effective January 1st, 2023, as StellerVista Credit Union (https://www.castlegarnews.com/news/east-kootenay-community-and-heritage-credit-union-merger-approved-by-members/), following a failed six-way merger proposal between Heritage, Grand Forks & District, Nelson & District, Kootenay Savings, East Kootenay Community, and Columbia Valley. It's only a matter of time before Columbia Valley and Nelson & District are forced into mergers with dance partners

* In Ontario, Copperfin Credit Union and Northern Credit Union are exploring a merger

* In Manitoba, Access Credit Union, which is really Crosstown Civic in the "driver's seat," is finalizing its three-way merger with Amaranth, Casera (and Casera Financial), and Carpathia (and Ideal Savings) credit unions, per https://www.pembinavalleyonline.com/articles/access-announces-merger-talks-with-casera-and-carpathia-credit-unions

* Also in B.C., First West Credit Union, which recently moved into its new Langley skyscraper and which operates under the Valley First, Envision Financial, Island Savings, and Enderby & District Financial brand names, is in the process of continuing as a federal credit union, https://www.bcfsa.ca/media/3179/download#:~:text=On%20December%208%2C%202021%2C%20First,Special%20Resolution%20by%20its%20membership.

* As a reminder, Saskatchewan's Innovation Credit Union, which is open to anyone in Canada already, is reportedly in the final stages of continuing federally

Cheers,
Doug

Yes, it's too bad that 6-Way merger didn't work out. It was just 'Too-Big-Of-A-Fish-To-Fry' for the folks out here.

Not to mention the HUGE Cost & Logistics that would have been required to join 6 CU's together, all at once.

I still expect most (if not all) of them will eventually merge. It's just gonna take some time ... perhaps 10 years, or more.

A related BNN article (not the vid) https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/credit-unions-trending-towards-greater-unity-as-tech-pressures-mount-1.1926121

Unfortunately, BNN has a habit of sometimes posting unrelated videos above some of their articles (as was done in this case) ... I have no idea why they do that. sf-confused

At any rate, the printed article makes for a very good read, and provides a lot of CU history & background.

Completely agree! Lately I've noticed their videos have virtually nothing to do with the written article, and the written articles are often modified Canadian Press articles, but yeah, I did read a similar Canadian Press article and that's what prompted the share here.

This is just the usual on-line practice of placing "bait" articles or videos near other material, related or not. Just like the ads.

. . . But in BNN's case, the Unrelated news video is not just 'near' the article ... it's plastered Right On Top, between the title of the article and the body of the article ❗

I find it Most annoying (as do others) ... but I guess it works for BNN. sf-confused

I avoid BNN about 100% of the time except for the morning email to start the day.
