Windsor Family Credit Union is offering a rate of 4.5 % for 4 months when a new savings account is opened. They recently amalgamated with Rapport Credit Union and now have 27 branches throughout Ontario.
I believe you have to call them to have money moved in and moved out. Somewhat like what Hubert became - you need to contact an agent to do transactions. Don't believe you can do it yourself like the usual FIs eg Tangerine etc.
How much is the membership fee to join WFCU?

I provided them with a void cheque from one of the big banks and will be able to move funds online, in and out of the account. The share price is $5.00 which is refundable if you close out the account.
Thanks.
I just phoned them and they said I would have to have an agent open the account so I might do so at a later time. I find that generally these credit unions seem to be so slow getting with newer technology - eg setting up the account myself online and linking the account. This should not require an agent's time.

The 4.5% promo is just a loss leader that becomes a regular svgs acct at 0.5% at the end of the promo.Unfortunate since WFCU has been a leader in GIC rates (often through brokers the past couple of years, but they don't offer a worthwhile HISA.

Perhaps there might be a service charge, but I would think you could just close out the HISA, and transfer the funds out once the 4 months end. To many it may not be worth the effort to open and then close the account within 4 months unless its a material amount of $ and you consider it a short term Term Deposit. Not sure if there is a limit to the $ amount you can put in this promo.
