Unavailable in Quebec: High Rate Accounts

I was celebrating like a madman when I discovered this site because it has a central place with all the web links to high rate savings accounts in Canada. I've always wanted one of these to park my money but to my dismay, many of these accounts are unavailable to Quebec residents. I tried PC Financial, Citizens Bank, and Canadian Tire Financial, and all three would exclude Quebec residents. Only HSBC and ING are available to me. I have no idea why this is so. Does anyone know?

Yes, the same is true to most Sweepstakes contest (available to all canadians except Quebec residents).

I believe the reason might be due to the different laws in quebec. I do not know the specifics, but perhaps a portion of the earnings go towards the province, so it may not make it profitable to have this accounts/products available to Quebec residents.

I myself live in Gatineau, Quebec (originally from Ottawa, Ontario). I opened up the PC Financial account while in Ottawa, and was able to still keep my account when I moved to Gatineau. But I was not able to open up any new accounts/products with PCFinancial. As I tried to open up the High Interest RRSP Account and even aswell wanted to apply for the overdraft protection on my existing No Fees Checking account, but was declined since I live in Quebec.

So yup, you may want to "move" to another province, open up the account, then "move" back. If you know what I mean.

The above poster's response is essentially correct. Quebec's Civil Law system and the Common Law system in the rest of the country have always been at-odds in many areas, especially where banking is concerned.

Well, you can add ICICI Bank in Québec's available banks 😉
They will even give you the 20$ referral bonus even if they specify that this offer is not available for Québec residents... The proff is that I received it.

Oh, also, I forgot to add that you can open an account with CTFS. The only problem is that you have to physically go to their nearest office which is situation in Cornwall, Ontario and present all your residency files there and identification proofs.

They told me via e-mail that they could opened accounts for Quebec residents but not online....

Hey Al, have you opened any account with ING or ICICI?

I see you have not submitted your application in my ICICI referral page listing.

Maybe I sent to the wrong e-mail adress or you changed your mind?

Any hint on that?

Cya
