What is the minimum age to open a credit union high interest savings account (not joint account with parents)?

Meridian Credit Union in Ontario requires that one has reached the age of majority in the province one lives. EQ Bank in Ontario requires the same.

Hubert Financial in Manitoba requires one be at least 18 years old.

I suspect one would have to reach the age of majority. Minors are not able to enter into most legal contracts unless the contracts are also ratified by a parent.

I believe there is no legislated minimum age, usually just need a SIN and another piece of id.

Each fi (credit union or bank) has its own policies, e.g. some don't have a minimum age but will require "youth/student" accounts to be joint with parent or guardian.
