It would seem that FirstOntario membership is limited to Ontario residents. It also isn't obvious that there is any way to connect an external account to this - it seems more to be high-interest option for FirstOntario members, rather than a potential stand-alone savings account like the ones tracked here.

Yes, I was doubtful for some reason too. But see here ... https://www.firstontariocu.com/Personal/BecomingAMember/ ... seems to be a bit of a conflict with in their web site. It says ANYONE can Become a Member of FirstOntario!. I would second it ... do not put it on the list.

I'd tend to believe the signup page's legal requirements rather than the PR bumpf elsewhere... :) I think Manitoba is rather the exception in allowing non-residents to be members.

BTW, note the $3.50 fee for debit transactions after the 1/month freebie. This looks a lot more like the restrictive HISAs the big banks have (with their $5 fees), just with a high interest rate.
