I want to link my EQ Bank and Tangerine Bank accounts to do Push/Pull transactions. I don't have a Cheque or the Transit, Institution numbers. I assume the respective Account numbers are acceptable. Does anyone know how to do this?

External Link (Tangerine Saving) discusses adding an Tangerine savings account to one's linked accounts at Alterna Bank.

I know that Tangerine savings accounts can accept direct deposits. But, don't know if Tangerine savings accounts can accept a pre-authorized debit (PAD) to withdraw money. So, not sure one could successfully pull funds from a Tangerine savings account at the Alterna Bank end.

Earlier post describes how to get the transit and institution numbers for one's EQ Bank savings account.

Sorry not sure how I setup this topic under Alterna Bank? My intention was to setup topic under either Tangerine or EQ Bank. I found the Tangerine Transit, Institution and Account numbers when I clicked on my Tangerine Chequing Account (under Account Details). I then went to my EQ Account and setup the link to Tangerine Chequing. This is currently in process. This should let me Push and Pull funds between Tangerine from my EQ Account. I would like to Push/Pull between EQ from my Tangerine Accounts ... I have emailed EQ for their respective numbers ... not sure if they will provide. Will update when EQ replies.

Edit by admin: the thread has been moved to the EQ Bank forum now.

One can obtain the transit and institution numbers from EQ Bank's online banking website.

After signing into EQ Bank's website, hover the mouse cursor over "Pay & Transfer". A menu will unroll downwards. Click on the last item in the menu "Pre-authorized transfers".

For information: I've just set up a link between Oaken and Tangerine, BUT Oaken told me that I can only push or pull from their end! Has anyone else had this experience?

How is that a problem, Jen? Is the issue from the Oaken side or the Tang side?

Stephen

Stephen, I'm not sure if it's a problem or not, at the moment, just less flexible. EQ allows push or pull with other online FIs, as does Meridian. I was just a bit surprised with Oaken's rule of not allowing a push from Tang.

Home Trust, the institution behind Oaken, may not be set up yet to receive clearing items from other financial institutions for direct deposit and pre-authorized debit. That is required to push money to and pull money from Oaken at another financial institution.

According to Payments Canada Rule D4: Institution Numbers and Clearing Agency/Representative Arrangements, Home Trust Company has been assigned an institution number. But, it itself is not a direct clearer and doesn't yet have a direct/group clearer who is its clearing agent:

373. The CPA Board of Directors approved the application by Home Trust Company (#627) to become a CPA member on February 18, 2016. As a result, Home Trust Company became a member of the CPA effective February 18, 2016. Home Trust Company does not intend to enter any payment items into the clearing at this time.

Thanks for your help! I have just Added EQ at Tangerine, quick and simple. Looks like I will be able to both PUSH and PULL at EQ and Tangerine. This is going to make transferring money much more efficient to high-interest opportunities. I had been using TD and CIBC as the Bridge to a move to a higher interest account.

As a newcomer to EQ bank, I'm still searching on how to push funds from EQ to a linked account at another institution or to withdraw funds from an EQ account by pulling from the linked institution. I can do Interac e-transfers, but what if I want to move a larger amount than Interac allows?

I find the interface at EQ Bank not very intuitive, so if someone could explain how they are doing transfers as described above, I'd be very happy. sf-embarassed

After EQ restored online access a few days ago, I noticed, that it is not possible anymore to link any new external accounts to EQ via online access.

After filling up external account numbers (branch, transit, acc. number), when you press "Confirm" button, noting happens, just the same "Confirm" button appears again, do not matter how many times you press that button.

Hi Winnie:
When I choose Pay & Transfer, then Linked bank accounts, I see my existing linked accounts at other institutions. However, I can't do anything with those accounts except 'Edit'. But this is now resolved ...

I ended up starting a chat session with their online support. Bank to bank transfers are initiated by double-clicking the Pay & Transfer menu item rather than selecting one of the options from the pull down menu. Simple enough but definitely not intuitive and apparently not covered in their online FAQs that I discovered.

Assuming you already have links set up, go to "Pending Transactions" under "Pay and Transfer":
EQ2-2.jpg
On the Pending Transactions page, click on "Go to Pay and Transfer" button;

Fill in the blanks and hit "submit"

Robert's your mother's brother and that's it.
Pulling from other bank has it's own process that is similar but different depending on which one you are dealing with.

There's several ways to skin a cat...
You can also click on the 'Pay & Transfer' button at the top of screen instead of hovering to have drop down appear.
I have 2 Uncle Bob's.

Thanx! I'm not fast enough to click on P&T before the drop down happens, so I just took the scenic route.

From RFD : ( Pushing / Pulling from EQ Bank to/from Tangerine )

Tangerine is like TD and you get the deposit next day around 8-9pm ET. PCF now Simplii is something like 12-ish hours after that and thus 1 extra business day.

Also note: if you just pulled money to EQ recently it might still be on hold so you may be forced to wait anyways. Not really an issue to be warned about for a push since EQ will stop you, but be careful anyone doing a pull from Tangerine's site ... don't try to pull funds on hold still!

Transfer timings ...

TING->EQ done by push from TING day 0, scheduled for day 1, withdrawn day 1, deposited day 2
TING->EQ done by pull from EQ day 0, credited to EQ instantly, withdrawn from TING on day 2 in AM
EQ->TING done by push from EQ day 0, withdrawn instantly, deposited day 1 8-9pm ET (not same for every bank)
EQ->TING done by pull from TNG day 0, scheduled for day 1, credited day 1, withdrawn from EQ day 2

This is all in business days.

Loses 1 day of interest (TING-only day 0, nothing day 1, EQ-only day 2)
Gains 2 days of interest (TING+EQ days 0&1, EQ-only day 2)
Loses 1 day of interest (nothing day 0, TING-only day 1)
Gains 1 day of interest (EQ-only day 0, EQ+TNG day 1, TING-only day 2)

On every $10K you're talking about 70 cents (less when you consider income tax) a day in interest. Personally I've not found this level of wheeling and dealing has had any positive effect on my attractiveness to the opposite sex but, hey, go for it!
