I’ve just checked EQ TFSA GIC rates and unless I’m missing something the 2.5% 3 month rate is no longer available. Showing 1.5% for 3 months. Rats! Someone tell me it ain’t so!

If that is the case, that's going pretty low with only four days left in the year.

My EFT dated Dec 20th (Sun) is already unhold today 29th (Tue).
Hm. This is out of my expectation, delightfully sf-smile.

... also I don't think my other banks do that - dating EFT transactions on a non-business day

Same thing here. Our "pull" on Dec. 19 is no longer on hold. I arranged for a transfer of "old money" into TFSA on Jan. 1 and "new contribution" on Jan. 2. Next task is to get that into a 3-mo. GIC asap.

X2 for spouse as well. Very smooth so far.

I was surprised because a pull on dec 23rd is just off hold! So that means the 24th and 28th both counted.

Pushing funds to EQ HISA you lose 1 day interest at most.

Good call. Pushed on the 29th, credited on the 30th, alerts arrived on the 31st. No funds on hold.

So it looks to me like you can only have 1 tfsa savings account. Is that correct?

christinad, do you mean at EQ, or in general? You can have TFSAs at various institutions. At EQ, I'd guess you can put some in a TFSA GIC plus put some in a TFSA savings account, but I'm just guessing.

I have two. One for myself and one for my wife. I can't see why it would matter how many TFSA accounts you have as long as you didn't exceed your contribution limit.

I stuck with a 5 year GIC in my TFSA @ 1.75% today. Not at EQ.

Have a Great Day

It's still at 2.5% for now. Could go away at any time, though.

TFSA only, btw. The regular 3 month one has been at 1.5% for a while.

pianoman8849, you say you have 2 TFSAs, one for you and one for your wife. So really you only have one, and your wife also has one, is that what you mean?

Yes, I know I should have clarified that. Of course that's not really two accounts for one person, as what was being asked. I do have two tfsa accounts at different institutions, one of them being EQ. I might be splitting my contributions. Not sure yet. I just can't go over the $ 50,000 limit.

Just to clarify what i mean, with hubert you can set up multiple tfsa accounts as you can with eq bank unregistered. I looked at the interface again and it looks like you can only have one tfsa account with eq which is too bad.

Thanks for correcting me... I had looked a day or two ago and could no longer find it... was clearly looking in the wrong place. Now I found it again. Thx!
