Home Trust emailed me for the following 3 documents and14 days to do so:
(1) A photocopy of my driver's license or passport
(2) An original of electricity bill or cellphone bill or property tax assessment
(3) An original of credit card statement or bank statement

Are you kidding me? I've never had a credit card company make such demands before. My credit score is in the mid 800 which they checked recently and it's not enough for them? I don't feel comfortable giving them all these important and confidential documents especially with systems being hacked into and rampant identity thefts. I find Home Trust arrogant when they demand all these documents for a credit card with low credit limit, a pin # that cannot be changed, a daily limit of 10 transactions. I wish they had made known this requirement on their website so that I can save myself the trouble of applying. It's strange that nobody discussed this in this forum so is this a new stipulation by Home Trust. I would like to find out from the forum if you received such an email and supplied Home Trust with all these documents in your application for the Home Trust Preferred Visa Card.

Your credit isn't a factor for this request. They want to make sure it's you who is doing the application to reduce their liability and fraud risk.

Others on RFD have mentioned they've gotten the same request and confirmed with customer service that it is real. It's up to you whether you want to trust them or not, and it's up to them whether they want to trust that it is you making the application.

Marnie, it is not Home Trust, it is across the board. The FIs are now indeed verifying that it is you. Trouble can arise when all the bills are only in one spouse’s name. For those in this situation, time is now to manufacture a reoccurring bill with both names on it.

This really is an odd duck credit card - issued by an entity that offers limited banking products while their "storefront" operation Oaken Financial, offers a range of banking products but NO credit cards.

This is probably the worst credit card I have ever applied for. It has been 9 weeks since I applied and nothing so far.

Asking for all those verification papers are so stupid. I am going to just call and cancel the application before they even process and hit my credit card.

I didn't apply for this card (and won't!), but I simply would never send them any original confidential documents. We can all live without this credit card.

We recently got a Rogers card and were not required to provide these kinds of documents.

Applied for and got the Home Trust card after my husband was denied it. They didn't ask for anything. It seems to be a bit of a crapshoot.

I only did the application...but I do have money in Oaken!!

They are asking for too much....I would not bother.

Am still thinking of cancelling it...they are so Micky Mouse. I can't change the pin and that is a big deal for me!!!

Could some applicants have a flag on their credit record to warn lenders to take extra care to confirm identity?

Those who were caught up in the 2013 Peoples Trust data breach have such a flag.

Good point, Norman.
On the other hand, I have a redflag from Peoples and was not asked for any of this stuff when we applied at Rogers. It as my spouse who put in that application, with me as secondary. Spouse is a Rogers customer already, so that may have helped. I HAVE run into secondary questioning when applying for new bank accounts since the Peoples issue.

I was one of those people and every time I apply for a card, I wait for a call. If I don't get the call in 2-3 days, I call them. Scotiabank was the only one requested to send them my paystub as income confirmation (Gold AMEX). Fido, I called them and it was sorted out during the 5 min call.

There is no flag on my credit reports at Equifax and Transunion. Thanks all for your views and experience with this credit card. I'm giving up on Home Trust. The feature that I'm interested in is the roadside assistance so I'm going to take a look at TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card which has Deluxe TD Auto Club. Home Trust 's roadside assistance is limited to 5 km and over that it's charged per km and who knows how much a tow truck will charge in a distressing situation when it's easy to gouge.

I have been waiting about 3 months for the Home Trust Visa.
Last week I had the request for my Passport/Drivers Licence, and original bills from my house, ie. electrical and another visa/m/c statement. I was also a bit shocked at this request but thought that it was perhaps because I had once reported my identity stolen. I took the documents down to Home Trust (luckily I had the afternoon off at work). It seemed like I was the first person to do this--they literally didn't know what to do with me, but eventually a very nice gentleman came out and looked at my documents and took copies. He said that hopefully the card should arrive in the next week or two.
p.s. I am a known entity to Home Trust--I have a lot of money there! Interesting that they want identity documents for a visa but not for savings!

I just received my HT VISA card about one week ago and took almost 3 months to get the card. During the application process I was never asked for this kind of info. I too have a mid 800 score, in fact, if I remember correctly I think the only info they requested on the application itself was my SIN number, but never further documentation was requested.

I don’t remember reading anywhere that there is only a limit of 10 daily transactions. Is this actually in the terms and conditions? Or something someone happened to find out the hard way when trying to use the card on the 11th transaction attempt?

Another disadvantage of hometrust is 10 transactions per day. For example, if you and your sig other buy 5 separate coffees in a day (ie 10 separate transactions), you can’t use the card till the next day. Dollar amounts don’t matter (within your credit limit of course).

moneyhelp, check out Norman1's post #32 above.

Home Trust Preferred Visa Card - Changeable PIN later this year!

..." You’ll also be assigned a 4-digit PIN with no ability to change it. That being said, Home Trust has confirmed that you’ll be able to change your PIN later this year.

"...Finally, there is a limit of 10 authorized transactions per day on the card."

That works fine for me since I can only handle a couple coffees per day! sf-winksf-winksf-winksf-wink

It looks like a great NO FEE card for making purchases outside of Canada.... if not ( i.e does not meet your needs) , there are lots of other credit cards organizations willing to take your application. sf-laugh

Wayno

It fits the purpose as a backup card and for those out-of-country purchase. The roadside assistance is an added bonus.
