I received this via email today. Effective Aug 1, 2020, Triangle Mastercard will be adding the new rate of 1.5% back in CT money on grocery purchases, excluding Costco & Walmart. But the rate will be reduced on purchases outside of their participating retailers to 0.5% from 0.8%.
I currently only use my Triangle card two ways:
- at Canadian Tire retailers to collect 4% in CT money;
- to pay property taxes and utility bills without incurring fees, with the added bonus of collecting a small amount of CT money.
I currently use an Airmiles World Elite Mastercard for all other purchases and that seems to be working out even with its annual fees. I have collected and used over $2000 in Airmiles Cash to buy groceries since January 2019.

I think this is just for the regular Triangle card.. No changes to World Elite version.
Did the regular Triangle card give more for Groceries in the past?
You're right - this info is for the regular Triangle card. You currently only receive 0.8% back on any purchases made anywhere other than at the Canadian Tire group of participating retailers where you receive 4%. So they will be increasing grocery store purchases to 1.5% (with the Walmart & Costco exceptions) but reducing everything else to 0.5%.
